[IMG] Today on my lunchbreak I decided to head out and get me a yummy shish-ka-bob. nothing like skewered grilled pieces of steak on a stick in this lovely cold weather that's strangling nyc.. after which I stopped into the Electronics Boutique to take a look around.

After playing the Two Towers game (its GREAT btw), I came across something called Throne of Darkness. I asked a worker what this was and she said it was a medieval japan version of Icewind Dale. Is this true? Has anyone played it? Is it any good?

I have finished it, and i liked it but it is more like:

"medieval japan version of...Diablo II" but it doesn't have "playability" of Diablo -> i finished it but i don't intend to replay it with another Char or lev up my char. It doesn't have good multiplayer.

You can control up to 4 samurai out of 7 to choose, but don't worry, you can switch between them at any point of the game. If one dies, your shogun returns them to your castle and there they recover until you call them back. Nice thing is that everywhere you can call blacksmith menu and sell/buy stuff, so there is no need for that annoying returning to town to sell stuff. Btw. there are differences between those 7 char, but very minor, like different set of spells, but not like in Diablo, so that makes it less playable. But still you have good choice of weaponry (especially if you like Japanese stuff) and everything is socketed! And you have greater choice of "gems" to socket items, but no runewords, or at least i didn't found them!

I played through some of it. The graphics are better than Diablo, but that was about the only thing I liked about this game.

Most of the weapon and item names are Japanese, making it tough to figure out what anything is. There's a weird system that lets you modify items, but it's confusing to use.

The controls suck. You control 1 person in your group, and the rest just kind of hover around you and attack whoever is nearby. The members of your party that you're not controlling have terrible AI, and the game moves too fast to be able to control them effectively.

If you want a decent Diablo-like game, check out Nox or Divine Divinity. Don't waste your time on Throne of Darkness.

    Just to say that:
You control 1 out of 4 char. on the level (so to say). AI of your allies depends on the formation you are using (spellcaster, range, melee) and you can create your own formations. Weapon modify is not more confusing that the one in Diablo, but it has more elements to combine. And few interesting "combinations". IMHO "Leader" type char. is the most powerfull since it has good mix of spells (btw. you can have only one of each type of char.) and you can make it that when you fire spell, you get more mana from mana leech than you used, so that makes game really easy (later).

I would too reccomend Divine Divinity, since it has also good jokes (like in Dink Smallwood) and some "BG like" non-linearity (sp?).

NOX is an old game that is similar to Diablo but it has "ID like" non-linearity if you kow what i mean :)
