I've found that a good deal of the game can be made much easier if you purchase three items and put them on your quickslot.
They are almost game-breaking in power.

They are the Greater Archer's Belt, the Greater Brawler's Belt, and the Greater Swordsman's Belt.

They give you damage reduction 20/- vs piercing, crushing, and slashing respectively. With the appropriate one of them on you are almost guaranteed to never lose a one-on-one fight.

You just have to pay attention to what kind of weapon the enemy is using and swap equipment as appropriate. None but the strongest can penetrate that damage reduction. The only time you are in danger from physical damage after the first round is when there is a group of enemies with different types of weapons, such as a swordsman boss backed by a couple of archers. Then, you should take out the weaklings ASAP while wearing the belt that protects you from the strongest enemy.

Also, you are vulnerable to spells, so acquiring items with spell resistance will be to your benefit, along with at least one regeneration item.

Just a tip. It makes the boss fights in the first couple of chapters almost a cakewalk.

Just be warned, those belts are almost a game breaker.

The only downside is that it will take half the first chapter to accumulate enough wealth to purchase them from the blacksmith in the city core.

Oh, and another tip. You can recruit all the mercenaries one by one, and if your level is high enough, you can keep talking to them until they give you their personal quest. Then you can give them the appropriate quest item, and ditch them. Those items are very useful, especially when upgraded in chapter 2. You can do the same thing in chapter 2 and upgrade all of them.

I thought this was pretty much common knowledge? I've always used these belts a lot.

Same here. I guess people can miss the belts, but if you're an anal-retentive type gamer then it's just one of those things you notice immediately and then take for granted later. It helps though that I normally play jack-of-all-trades type classes, so me gradually developing a working knowledge of every noteworthy item in the game I'm currently hooked on is pretty much a given. It comes naturally after all the consecutive playthroughs.

What the heck? I replied to a different thread, the one where I was asking about things being foggy. Why did it show up here?

Please delete this, I'll post a new reply in the right thread.
