[IMG] Maybe you should go with smaller parties. If you soloed BG1 but are having trouble beat ToB with a party then maybe you just aren't as good managing multiple party members in combat then a select few.

Besides you level up faster and have less people to divide the goods amongst with smaller parties.

You might want to try that.

Have you been using the AI scripts for the NPC's.

I personally prefer to micro-manage my party, but the AI scripts do work if you are using the right ones for your style of play.

My main strategy for battles generally consisted of buffing my tanks and protecting my spellcasters. Once protected the tanks set up a defensive barrier to the casters, and use missile weapons (if time permits), while the casters start using AoE spells initially before targeting individuals.

My favourite is Horrid Wilting since it does horrendous damage, and stays in the area for a while. I tend to cast it at the front of my tanks, since it doesn't effect your party members, and that is generally where the monsters are too.

Ooh, one thing I did learn the hard way...keep an eye on your party health. I used to let my tanks get down to about 1/4 hit points before healing. That's no good if you get hit for 50+hps!

    Hope that helps :D

If you're having difficulty, then do more of the sub-quests. If you are a lower level, then random encounters will be adjusted to suit your level, but I don't think the main scripted encounters (which form most of the game) will be. You might find things a lot easier if you go into these encounters at the sort of level the game expected you to be. When you've managed to do this, then of course try the quick run through, only doing those things you have to.

I strongly suggest doing the side quests. They are there so you can buff your characters up, get better magical items, spells, and so forth.
If you have to use the cheats go for it, so long as you are still having fun with the game (I myself have to use them but for *very* different reasons.)

[IMG] Maybe you should get more practise, so play BG2 at the easy level. It will help. Never cheat.

Well, this is how I see things, Chief...

1)Do subquests, Kill weaklings when you can (evil weaklings).

2)Use items special powers, rest a lot

2)Use Combos: Improved haste + Melfs minute meteors
blade barier + sanctuary (illithids end)
    and others (think when casting)

3)use wands and recharge them all the time via stealing and selling (in shops accepting "borrowed" items). Cloud kill and fireball are the best.

BTW: Use mages (pure class) a lot. Personaly, I fight my way mostly with katana and CromF of my killer lass, but if you had problems...

magic misile is good for sequencing, abi dazim HB the best - you just need the best sequencer.

Firestorm is good - burns as hell...
time stop (:)) + Abi dazim/Melfs minute meteors...

Use breach and khelbens warding whip (and such) against mages.
Use spell trap and stoneskin on your own ones.

    Cast clerical power-ups on cuters.

    Try Backstabb and traps.

Slash their pathetic butts (is there double T?).

P.S.: I think You are just to weak because of skipping the sub quests (you lose exp and goodies), thats why you cannot beat the tougher ones.

I am sure You will succeed, Bg2 is not so hard (I consider it rather easy, you just need a good party - spend some time rolling atributes in the beggining)

Hehe, when I played it for the first time, I didn't pause a single time, was pretty hard.

If you have problems, play lame, use the fog to take the enemy out one at a time.

The first times I didn't use all the good wands or some of the good ranged bolts and arrows because I didn't whant to loose the, dont do as I, and as someone already wrote, play with lesser companions and do all sub-quests. As a power gamer I wouldn't even dream about don't finish all the quests before I go on.

My first time through, I also found it pretty hard, and likely for the same reason you do. I skipped too many of the minor quests (including my stronghold...that hurt :( ), I never used the best items available, and I tended to cast spells pretty stupidly. Later on though, I started to realize my mistakes and fixed them. Always do most of the quests (all is not necessary), use the best items you can and always, always, have an idea of the capabilities of your enemy. Don't cheat though, it will spoil the game, and I think that might be one of the reasons why you're having trouble.

Also, what class is your character? I found the game to be easier when your main character is a fighter type. Perhaps you could try that??? Also, two mages tend to make the game easier as well. I only tried it with one after I became good at it.

Just out of curiousity, did you cheat to get that stuff, and how the heck did you get FoA without doing D'Arnise Keep? If you did get that stuff legit, I don't see why you are having problems with the game.

If you want the game to be easier, you must understand how to use magic. My first time through I used magic in the same limited fashion as in BG1. The second time (after IWD) I had a better understanding and found it to be much easier.

It's a matter of constantly re-evaluating what you've done, thinking both creatively and logically to come up with newer methods to deal with the opposition. It's worth your while to go over the game manual, look at all the spells and special abilities in porous detail, think how you can use it battles and situations that were giving you trouble. It's done wonders for me.

I'll give a few examples of where I've had trouble, and, with some hard thinking, turned things around dramatically.

Torgal and his strength draining buddies used to give me a bad time.
Solution: Jaheira and my Fighter/Mage would both be protected by Stoneskin, and Protection from fire. They step ahead, Anomen puts a Firestorm spell right on top of them. Trolls on a skillet I say ...

Dragons: Spread your party out, with Remove Fear and other spell protections on them. Spell Trigger: Breach, Lower Resistance, Pierce Magic. The Dragon can then be ganged up on and Magic Missiled with impunity. Note: Things get more complicated (and funner) with the Solaufein and Ascension Modules.

Irenicus, high-level mages, Liches: Layer a mage or multi-class mage character with the Cloak of Mirroring, mage defensive spells, and Clerical defensive spells. Have him face the sorcerour baddie alone and soak up his whole repertoire without a scratch.

    Hope this helps,

    Dave M
