Is it just me, or did traps get weaker from BG1 to BG2?

I used to live in fear of the magic missile that would flatten Imoen as she cracked open a chest, or the sudden web trap in spider territory, keeping her detect traps on constant use.

Now, my characters tend to walk thru that mess and shrug off everything but the occasional mind-control trap, or the dreaded death spell trap (or disintegrate...)

I know I got stronger... But was it stronger enough to be this uncaring of trap damage?
I still check boxes, but when walking thru a dungeon (save maybe Watchers Keep) I tend to just walk thru...

    Caliban :D

(Remember when you would be at the end of a dungeon, forgetting to quick save, and imoen triggers the last trap... *bam* lightning bolt and she gibs into a million lttle pieces, unraisable... Its times like that when my BG1 discs came close to being snapped  )

I'd say the logical explanation is that your characters get stronger.

The traps were also rarer in BG1. But you didn't mention the worst of them all: The traps in Durlag's Tower that peppers you so full of arrows that you end up looking like a (dead) hedgehog...

Even though the BG2 traps don't hurt you very much, there's still a reason to search and disarm. That reason is, like Gonzago has already stated, the XP.
