[IMG] I just got to Dragon's Eye, and was immediately attacked by four ice trolls. Not only was this severely annoying because I couldn't insta-save like I usually do after travel to prevent fatigue, in this case from the three day trek we just took, but seeing that they were trolls I went through the trouble to line up three of them for a Scorcher after they fell to finish them off, but I hit the fourth one with a Melf's AA to get him too. When he spontaneously died I thought it might be because of the MAA, but the other three went down without a spell. And stayed down.

Now I'm scared that either they'll pop back up or something, and I'll have to do a split-second pause to shoot off the Scorcher to kill them again (since I can't target them as is), or that there's some sort of bug in my un-modded game. If it helps, I've got pure IWD (no HoW) with the latest patch for it found on SP (v1.06).

Nope, its not a bug. In IWD only a few 'species' of trolls require fire or acid to kill. Whereas the smaller bluey-colored trolls simply die, the other bunch, who look rather like the trolls in BGII with long limbs, need some additional help in dying. I think these latter trolls come in green and white colors if it helps.

I think Ice Trolls just die in that game. There is definitely a Troll species in Icewind Dale that doesn't get up after you kill it. I'm not sure if it's the Ice ones, but it sounds like it could be.

    Only Ice Trolls will die.

It's not a bug (the other species still need fire or acid) ;)

Only ice trolls and greater ice trolls don't need special treatment.

A troll who is killed while stunned/phased or explodes doesn't need fire or acid either.

Just a little note:are Ice Trolls immune to normal weapons? IIRC they are. Which is a bummer in that early stage of game. I guess this makes up for the fact that they do die easily.

I don't think so. I shot that out-of-line one with regular arrows to take it down quicker and had my dwarf wielding a Flawless Two-Handed Axe (non-magical) I found in Kresselack's Tomb and I don't remember any 'Weapon Ineffective' messages; I'm pretty sure I hit it at least once. The only magic that hit it was the Melf's AA, and that only affected it twice before it went down. At most that'd be 16 damage (average of 10), and I don't think they're that weak, are they?

Anyway, thanks all for the reassurance. :) I'm past the first level now, and that Potion of Constitution from the snake statue is going to help my dwarf big-time. :D

Hardenned Ice and Fire Trolls don't need any assistance to be killed.

I've experienced the same thing, and had the same confusion. I figured it was a bug too. Oh well. Personally, the faster trolls die the happier I am! :)

Yes, the Ice Trolls do just die. I didn't remember that this was "untroll-like" until I ran into the blue trolls on level 2, who do need to be "helped" to achieve their destiny.
