trouble installing a game

    Okay, I recently got the Dark Crusade expansion for Dawn Of War, but for some reason it won't install on my computer. I have the original game, as well as the Winter Assault expansion, and whenever I try to install I get a window titled "feature transfer error" which says:

    I installed it on my friend's computer and it worked fine, so I'm unsure as to the problem here.

    Sounds like your CD drive is having trouble reading the disk. Different drives are better/worse at reading disks with bad spots. Try copying all the contents of the CD to some temp folder. If it can not read the whole disk then that is the problem. Try cleaning the disk. If it does copy everything then there is some other problem that I cannot help with.

    Well, I copied the contents of the disc to a folder, and it installed fine from there. It must be a problem with my CD drive, then, which is pretty strange since I've never had this problem before.

    Probably time for upgrade. ;) Writers seem to cost minimally more than readers these days, so if you hate problems reading a CD/DVD, get yourself a writer. Writers read much better than readers because they have better lasers.

    But that costs money. Money I don't have. :(

    By the way, if this is a problem with my disc drive, would this explain why my games start stuttering after a while?

    So, is there anything I can do, apart from having to buy a new drive/reader/whatever? How much does a writer cost these days, anyway?

    I've only had this system for about half a year, so I'm hoping it isn't something as drastic as my disc reader being screwed up, otherwise it seems like a bit of a waste of money.

    Is it possible that the problem might just be dust or something? That could be stopping the laser from reading the discs. Ah, I don't know. I'm not exactly a tech guru. I just play the damn things.
