Since I have had many friends on SP and enjoyed the communication I just wanted to updatte anyone who remembers me. I am still alive and well but did have some major problems that curtailed my being on the Internet. I had cataract surgery that first went well but I developed Fuke's disease. (stop snickering, guys.). It is a swelling in the cornea and is fairly common. If minor it may not bother the person and can be treated with drops or oinment.

I needed to have a partial cornea transplant. This is a fairly new procedure and there are risks. Is safer than a full cornea transplant. I had the procedure on June 27 and so far things are going well. My vision has improved. It takes three to six months for a partial cornea transplant to heal.

All other health issues are under contrail and I hope you guys will be around in nineteen years to help me celebrate my 100 birthday.:hippy:

Tal, you changed the Board again. Nice job.

Thank you, Beren and Blackthorn. Medical science has made some remarkable advances just in the last thirty or so years. Some of the work being done is absolutely amazing. Because of my Macular Degeneration there is a limit to how much sight I will regain but already I notice some improvement. It has been a very stressful time but outside of headache the first couple of days I haven't even had discomfort. If I believed in a god I would be praying up a storm but I am very grateful to all the scientists and doctors who have worked and are working on the problems with the eyes.

Now if they can come up with a solution to memory loss old age will not be quite so unpleasant. I am lucky that so far I have no problem in that area. My mind may not be so agile as it was twenty years ago but is still good. I feel that I owe part of that to people I met on SP because they challenged me, made me think and put up with no nonsense. That kept me young in thought. It warms me just thinking of them.

Thanks, Magpie, I hope so too. The surgery may be complicated for the surgeon but it is boring for me. I have to be awake although sedated so I don't feel anything. I have to lie very still, no coughing or anything. Very, very boring. So I do not want to go through that again. The surgery is done in the surgeon's clinic and there is no hospital stay. Afterwards I have to lie flat on my back which ended up bbeing about three days. Because I am diabetic this was bad and I almost went into coma because of not eating or drinking. My fault, I was so concerned about the transplant I ignored the diabetic problem. Should I need to repeat the surgery I now know to be more careful.

If any one is interested feel free to ask questions. I will try to answer the. Between the Macular degeneration and this partial transplant I now know a great deal about the eye. It really is a very complicated apparatus.;)

Good to hear you are on the mend. We all take eye sight for granted, but not having it will drive home how much we rely on it on a daily basis.

Thank you, guys. One thing I have to get used to is the games. I'll start an old game I have played many times and think "What they changed this game" then I realize the change is in what I can now see. :)

I also had a cataract surgery about 6 months ago. The doctor said I was the youngest person he every did. Everything went fine but lately it feels like there is always something in my eyeball, my vision is still good though. Good luck on your continued healing :)

Sorvo, did you have the doctor check the eye? There is a possibility that the lens moved. Better to be safe than sorry. If that isn't the problem there are drops that might help. Ask about them. Hmm, I will not comment about drinking but you are a bit unlucky. Women are more prone to get cataracts than men.

Actually I got my first cataract in my 40s. So much as advanced in eye medicine since then. Cataracts should be removed early. This I have from experts. It is a myth that you should wait. Annual eye examinations by a good ophthalmologist are a must have.

Thanks,Snook; The advances made in the last few years are so great that it is more important than ever. A yearly exam can catch problems early before they become difficult or dangerous to fix. Anyone over fifty should have one of course but even younger people are at risk. Diabetics I know are prone to eye damage. Macular Degeneration cannot be cured but if caught early can be controlled. I stress this because we do take our vision for granted and please take my word for it that losing your vision is traumatic.

Thanks, Harbourboy. I am one of the lucky ones I have a fantastic General Practitioner who has gotten my diabetics and cholesterol under control. My foot doctor is very special. The eye surgeon is an excellent surgeon but does not explain things well. Mark calls his facility a puppy factory. :) His surgical staff is good but his clerical staff is second rate. I can't help but compare them to my retina specialists staff. There both the technicians and the clerical staff are excellent.

My eyesight has improved and I am going through old games and finding it very interesting. Color has improved and so has detail. Depth perception is poor because of the permanent loss of vision in that eye. A technician at the surgeons said "You have two eyes" and I replied "No, I have one and a half". It is actually more like one and a third. Still I am very happy with the progress.

Interesting - I generate massive cholesterol and sugar levels ... but my medicine has unpleasant side effects so I try to use it judiciously
