    I have a G-Force 4 MX460 (rubbish, I know). I have XP Pro, with neither SP1 or SP2.
I tried to update my graphics drivers to these . When I do though, my card runs even worse than usual. I can't play games like UT2003 properly, because the card struggles. When I revert back to my old drivers that came with the card (like 2 years ago, at least) the card runs better than with the new drivers!
When updating, I didn't uninstall my old drivers, instead just downloaded the new ForceWare ones, double clicked the .exe and let it do it's stuff.

Am I doing something wrong? Are these the wrong drivers for my card/OS? Which ones should I be using?

    Thanks for the help

Who is the actual manufacturer of your video card? I'd check their site for drivers before using the generic drivers from nVidia.

I could be wrong, but IIRC, the last time I updated video drivers, it was recommended that you uninstall the old drivers and pick a generic windows VGA driver until you install the new one.

    It's a Creative 3DBlaster4 MX460.
I don't 'think' it supports DirectX 9.0. Not sure, I'll have to see if I can find out for definite.
Are those older versions of the ForceWare drivers Dark Haired Beauty? I'll try them out, thanks.

    Cheers guys.

I found these on the Creative website, but the date says like, May 2003.

    @ Shalladeth

That isn't a good advice at all, since nVidia always has the freshest drivers with less bugs. So, try the following:

    1) Uninstall old drivers.
    2) Update to SP2 (yes, it *does* fix things :xx: )
    3) Install DirectX9.0c if you don't have it.
    4) Install the newest ForceWare drivers.

If that doesn't work, it just might be that they have made some changes that do not fit well with that old AGP-card of yours. In such case just stick to the old ones until you buy a new one.

You must always uninstall the old nVidia drivers before installing new ones. Wirhe's post is right on the money in terms of most advice. I'd stay away from SP2 though. It causes problems with hundreds of games (and there are many other issues with it), and unless you're a total idiot when it comes to Internet security, you don't really need it. For advanced users, it's more trouble than it's worth.

@ Wirhe - I had problems in the past with using the latest drivers from nVidia and have had good luck with using the drivers provided from the maker of my nVidia cards (MSI). Just speaking from personal preference.

I agree with Dark Haired Beauty, 61s over the 66s. The 66.93 version gave me some problems also. So I went back to the 61.77 version.

All GeForce 4 cards are DX8 only, this won't cause any problems running UT2003 or any DX9 games. I heard somewhere that these cards run better with a reasonable amount of system RAM, if you have any new applications running in the background these could effect your card.
If you have a PCI version of this card, you can get reduced performance if you have other hardware using the other PCI slots. If you have installed any new hardware recently check to see the difference without it.
If you are looking to play first person shooters you might want to consider overclocking or upgrading. Try the Guru 3d forums or Toms Hardware for some good advice.
