    State Rankings for 2011.

    California is dead last in Business Friendliness, third to last in Cost of Living, fourth to last in Cost of Business, and overall closer to the bottom than to the top. So sad.

    At least we're tops in Technology and Innovation :)

    If I was single I would love to live there. I've lived in NYC and on L.I. and loved it, but CA is still a place I haven't lived yet, but always wanted to. Texas is a pretty nice place to live and raise a family, but it's not nearly as hip as Cali.

    I would not have thought Virginia would be on top of the list. I'm very familiar with Virginia, and I think the reason I wouldn't have ranked it so high is just because it's so different depending on where in Virginia you are talking aobut. Virginia is almost like two states. Northern Virginia is very metropolitan and more like the mid-atlantic states, whereas southern and especially western Virginia is more similar to the deep south. (As an aside, while Maryland may technically lie below the Mason-Dixon line, it's not the south - you're not really in the south until you hit southern Virginia.)

    Mrs. Chandos was born and raised in VA, and to be honest, neither of us really don't think much of the place. I've been there a number of times, and can understand why she did not like living there. In fact, when we were married, and I visited for the first time, she warned me that I would not like VA. We both like Texas better.
