Video conversion software

    I'm looking for some good video conversion software and I am hoping someone here could help me out. Basically, the situation is that some .avi files I've downloaded and burnt to CD aren't supported by my divx player for some reason. They must be some obscure codec or other. So, I thought I'd convert them to mpeg or something like that, but have no idea what good software there is out there to do it.

    I'd appreciate any help :thumb: .

    Finding the right codec to play them sounds more reasonable to me... Also, as far as I know, without having the proper codec to play them, you won't be able to convert them either.

    I would do, but when I say divx player, I mean a standalone hardware player.

    I can play the files on my computer. I just need to put them into another format to be able to put on a DVD to play on my divx DVD player.

    VLC has a file-to-file transcoding option, but even the makers do not recommend using it (the transcoding option was designed for streaming and saving a network stream, not file conversion)

    I'm afraid you're going to have to pay for a software that does this. This seems to be exactly what you're looking for, so you could give that a try (it's shareware, so you might be able to at least make sure it works before you pay for it)

    The same website has a big list of video conversion software, so you could look through these and hope you find what you're looking for.
