If that barbie should be made illegal,
then GI Joe should be too since it promotes violence, the G.W Bush action figure should be too since it promotes stupidity..

I so disgust these people, violence on t.v., okay. soldiers fighting, okay. action movies with people dying, okay.. but one tit, third kneepit or a pregnant barbie and suddenly it´s like "Think of the children!!!"

What on earth to these parents want their children to believe, they grow out of vegetables, ostriches, angels appear with the baby?? "Here you go, thats $200, pay or we give your soul to Satan"

So what is a good age to introduce children to healthy family life?

And honestly, tell me any 9 year old that doesn't know about birth and I will personally call Ripley's.

It said that the doll has a wedding ring and is married. Seems to me that promotes healthy family life. What do the parents that support this want their children to believe?

Ridiculous? Yes. Anti-female? I for one don't see it. The only ones I saw quoted in the CNN article as having a problem with it were two women with kids who thought it sent a teen-pregnancy message.

I think we should get rid of all baby dolls for sale. What kind of message are we sending to our kids? What if they like playing with the baby dolls? Won't that encourage them to go out and get pregnant?

And if they're concerned that a barbie that's pregnant is going to promote teenage pregnancy, then what about the baby dolls that are already for sale? What about Barbie's little sister, who is, in fact, a baby? How do the parents explain to their little Suzies and Sallys where their baby doll(The wets and eats just like a reall baby!)comes from? Does that mean that we ought to ban pregnant women from going into Walmart? (Mommy, why is her tummy so big?)

Edit: I posted right at the same time as Blackthorne, who pretty much says the same thing I do. So I'm only partially a copy-cat.

    inre: anti female
basically what I see all to often is that women are unacceptable in whatever form they are in, pregnant, scantily dressed, single, working, divorced, married with kids...etc
These criticisms come from women as well as men, if not more often. I don't intend to pollute the topic with this, I just wanted to clarify what I had said a bit.

Barbie with the legs a mile long and the breast upright, so misformed she would not be capable of walking if she were real, *that* Barbie is 'ok' but pregnant Barbie is 'not' just blows my mind

Some parents may in fact be concerned that pregnant barbie will **** up their kids-but I believe that idiot reactions like this woman's are simply an attempt to gain money. It's lawsuit time!

[I just did some research on Wal-Mart, and it turns out that in the past:

A woman in Northern Florida found a shirt that so offensively declared that "Someday A Woman Will Be President" to be "anti-family values." The offended woman complained; Wal-Mart quickly pulled the shirt off their racks.

Fundamentalist Christians at AFA didn't like it how Wal-Mart had Cosmopolitan magazine displayed at the checkouts. AFA successfully pressured Wal-Mart into putting blinders over the sinfully obscene magazine. Blinders...for Cosmopolitan. This all because some dingbat mothers decided to drag their dingbat children to Wal-Mart with them and get themselves all "offended."

"Concerned" parents complained to Wal-Mart about music CDs they found "offensive." Nevermind the fact that videogames, music CDs, movies, etc. have ratings on them and generally cannot be listened to or played in the store; that wasn't good enough. Wal-Mart removed the "offensive" CDs immediately. So because some children might catch a glimpse of a naughty CD, no one, including adults whose only local retailer is Wal-Mart, can buy them.

So, it isn't money, it's "Christian" "family values." do you begin to understand why I despise fundies?]

[IMG] That is just funny to me. Maybe I really do have a strange sense of humour after all. But then I always get a chuckle off these strange things that happen. Yep you can buy a load of guns for 'home protection' but we ain't gonna sell you the pregnant barbie :p
It is quite disturbing at the same time. After all barbie through the years has tried to make real life situation dolls, like working babrbie in a pinstripe suit etc, so why does this cause such horror?
And yes, I was bored enough to watch programms about collectors peices etc when I was on night shifts and the history of barbie was covered in one of them. I am full of useless information trivia from my late night TV watching ;)

    LOL @ Morgoth ;)

But God can't be gay, he hates homosexuals remember? ;) . Besides, why worry about it, those people are hypocrytes anyway. Better just to sit back and laugh at them, trying to guess what they'll do next  .

[IMG] I hope the two of you are talking about fundamentalists. I'm a Christian myself and I am rather opposed by the way you talk about God/Christians. Don't generalize.

Now back to the topic, please.

[IMG] Hooray finally someone posted after Vermillion

I had a Barbie type doll when I was small. You could open it's belly up and take the baby out. Disturbing isn't it?

What is the actual point of a pregnant Barbie? Who would actually want it?

    @MoN
Sorry, and yes we were aiming at fundamentalists

Children will eventualy learn were baby´s come from, and this way is more "childfriendlyer" than seeing it on Discovery or a pornchannel..

    Accepted ;)

I work in a toystore and we've sold these pregnant dolls. Girls just seem to like babies and thus pregnant moms and everything else that has to do with it. No problem with that.
If people think these dolls promote teen-pregnancy, they just shouldn't buy this doll.

easy as that piece of cake.

let's not dignify them by calling them fundamentalists. Calling them fundies is much more fun :)
