Having played NWN for almost a week, I came accross several items that required certain levels to used them. It was frustrating that I actually spend time location certain weapons and components to forge a good weapon only to realize that my character's level is insufficient to use it. I ended up buying another ordinary weapon instead of using a magical one. Not that I disliked the game because of this but rather it feels like Diablo. My question is:

Is it 3rd Edition Rule that weapons, armours, and other items with magical properties have level caps? Or is it just NWN?

I think its just the game itself. Coz to my knowledge other 3E games do not have this problem. However, if you want to reach the levels, just enter the cheats, or import a char from BG 2.

Yes it's just NWN. It's their attempt to help prevent illegal characters/items from ruining multiplayer games.

I'm surprised you made items you couldn't use because of the level restrictions; I never had that problem. And it was a rare occasion that I found items I couldn't use also...

the book of forgeable items given by the dwarf in chapter 1 didn't say anything about level restriction, so i supposed that it was within my characters capacity. besides it was my first.

In the citycore (between the Peninsula District Gate and the big druid-tree) you find a blacksmith with a guard dog outside. Its next to the Moonstone Mask, maybe you found THAT? :D
In the back of the shop, at the left, you find a stairs down which leads to Marrok's Forge.

or make a search for 'Marrok'.

Tip: Save before you let Marrok forge an item for you. You might get the same problem as Nior and me or maybe you just don't like the weapon...
