[IMG] In honor of Bel's promotion to the ranks of the Player-Killers ... err ... I mean DM's, I was wondering what makes a good on-line DM?

In PnP a good DM brings lots of chips and pop, gives magic weapons early and often, and steals the best plot lines from many good books and comics ... combining them into a hack 'n slash fantasy-land. (okay, so I played with a munchkin through high school ... it was fun ;) )

DM-ing online is a much different beast. I'm sure ALFA has guidelines that they've sent him ... but lets give him some free advice just for the fun of it.

Good luck Bel, I'm looking forward to the new, cooler Daggerdale!

I think someone is a good online DM, when he/she/it does everything in his/her/its power to give a good time to the players. Give them quests, don't make it too easy, but don't let is seem like you're trying to kill them. And involve everybody, not just the players that have been on longest. Ask a low level character to assemble a party and go on a quest.

And make some badass surprise all those lame players (including me) who always sit around the fire at the front gate, either not wanting exitement or waiting hours for exitement.

I'm bad at giving advice, and I think I'm only telling you the obvious.

[IMG] The best online DM is the one that watches out for his player friends so that even when other players are dropping like flies around them, they always manage to come out on top. ;)

A good DM should be able to cater (sp?) for all, not just the high level guys who can take on anything, but also the low levels.

Perhaps even if it was just a purely for low level people quest. I had a quest once with a party made of only level 1-2 players.
Multiple choices in your quests would make for an interesting time, and lots of twists and turns, but I suppose those would only apply for long term quests. but what the hell. :D
