Every year--or almost--there's an Independance Day post here, where the supporters and detractors of the New American Empire snarl their differing patriotisms across the void. But when I looked in to check on this years mayhem...Nothing. So, although it's five days late...

This year, as last, we did not put out our flag, for reasons that should not be too difficult to figure out. But my wife noticed a peculiar thing, here in our small, rural, conservative, fundamentalist, patriotic village: Neither had anyone else. Normally, on the 4th, the place is festooned. This year, only a few; less than a handful, really, had put out the flag. I'd like to think it was a quiet, unorganized, almost unanimous protest.

Maybe everyone was too busy having a day off work.

Well...I *was* going to make the annual 4th of July post, but I was in the middle of a family reunion, and had very little time. This year we didn't have our flag out either, but we had two good reasons not to.
First, my brother accidentally backed his car into our flag pole (located 3 feet from the street) about a month ago, so now it leans about 30 degrees to one side... :skeptic: Secondly, it was raining for most of the day/night on the 4th and 5th. :(

I'll remember to make the post next year. :p :rolling:

Amateurs in the park about 50 feet away. I'm surprised the caretaker managed to get to sleep in the middle of that.

I was in a hotel room in Madrid instead of home because of Spanair.

I'm not patriotic or anything, but I would have liked to see some fireworks :bad:
