[IMG] I'm confused. What is this new Coca Cola Zero stuff. They say it has zero sugar. Isn't that what Diet Coke is for? Is this a replacement for Diet Coke? If so, why does our drink machine still sell normal Coca Cola, Diet Coke, and Coca Cola Zero.

Harbs, Coca-Cola Zero is specifically aimed at people who enjoy the taste of Coca-Cola Classic, but for some reason, cannot drink it. It isn't meant to replace Diet Coke, and Coca-Cola have said that the toughest challenge was to promote Coca-Cola Zero without cannibalizing the sales of Diet Coke.

But the whole point of Diet Coke is that it has no sugar. What's the point of making two no-sugar versions? Or, more specifically, what is the point of Diet Coke now that they have finally managed to make a diet Coke that doesn't have a funny aftertaste?

Coke Zero taste more like regular coke, but has nothing in it. It will replace Diet Coke eventually. They just don't want to take Diet Coke off the shelves until people have tasted Coke Zero and like it better.

    zero = zero calories?
diet = some low calories? Sugar substitues still have some calories in it just that our body cannot absorb it as efficient as sugar itself.

No, Coke Zero still has 1.1 calories. I think it just an improved version of Diet Coke but, as mentioned above, Diet Coke is too entrenched to remove, so we end up with two versions.

Anyway, I am going try one right now.

I don't know about the UK, but in Canada, it's been available for a few months now.

As I explained, Coca-Cola said that the toughest challenge was to promote Coca-Cola Zero without cannibalizing the sales of Diet Coke.

Diet Coke has it's very own flavour (the recipe is a modified version of the New Coke one, the disastrous commercial failure), one that I truly dislike, to be honest. Coca-Cola Zero shares the same recipe than Coca-Cola Classic, with the no sugar difference, that everyone knows.

Zero is also very popular: it holds nearly 20% of the soft drink market. That is a HUGE share.

Diet Coke is extremely popular in Europe (I believe that there it is sold under the monicker Coca-Cola Light), so it is a very viable possibility that Zero will overthrow Diet Coke, at least in the US and Canada. I won't be crying in my Zero if I ever hear Diet Coke is being phased out, although I doubt it will ever happen.

In the end, it's all a matter of taste. I prefer Zero because of the distinct Coca-Cola Classic taste which I am very fond of. Some other prefer Diet Coke, and while I wonder why, hey, it's their choice.

    Don't they have different sweeteners?

No. Both Zero and Diet are sweetened with Aspartame. There is a perticular kind of Diet Coke which is sweetened with Splenda, but I've never tasted it.

Actually Coke Zero is sweetened with Aspartame AND Acesulfame-potassium. It does contain a second sweetener. Probably to give it a more natural sugar flavour. All I know is that coke zero seems to sell out very quickly in my local supermarket.

Wait, are you saying that Diet Coke and Coke Light are exactly the same thing?

I wouldn't know as I drink neither, but if it's true then it's kinda weird as they sell both here.

Same thing here. Zero is astoundingly popular. But why did they took SO LONG before releasing a no-sugar version of Coca-Cola Classic, I wonder...?

Basically, I think so. I'm not 100% sure, though, I'll look into the matter.

Well, apparently over here the coke people 'tailored' it to suit the tastes of Australians. So it should be different in every country from every other country. Haven't tried it yet though.

I used to like coca cola when I was younger, but it's incredibly bad for you, and especially your teeth, even without the sugar, so I don't drink it anymore, even though I'd like to sometimes, but if I ever have kids, there's no way I'd give them **** like coca cola, sugar or no sugar. Also, zero hasn't come into the UK yet, well, I haven't seen it. Still diet and regular.

I figured it out... today we had a speaker who spoke about Sports Illustrated, who advertises with Coke... the speaker said that Diet Coke's target audience is women, whereas Coke Zero's audience is men. Go figure.
