[IMG] I'm from Croatia so i apologise for my bad englisch :o .I have played Neverwinter Nights before
and i finished 1st chapter but I stopped playing. Why?I figured out my character is weak and boring to play with.So I would like if you can tell me what character should i play?I have Shadows of Undertide but I wont be installing it until i'm finished with Neverwinter Nights and then i will install expansions packs.I want to play a fun character and he must be good trough every level of the game not just when he reaches high level.I want it to be good at low levels and high levels. So if you could share some good advice about my character please help me(I don't like a pure fighter becuse i like a little magic in everything ).

    Hey, welcome!

I guess it depends on what rocks your boat. I play equally with Wizards and Rogues, and like them both. The wizard needs more micromanagement with the learning of spells and all that, but soon you find that with a good henchman you can be unstoppable.

At the moment I am playing with a rogue and having lots of fun. I can use some magical scrolls and wands, and placing traps and luring the enemies to them is making my battles somewhat more interesting. The good thing about a rogue is that you always have locks to pick, and traps to disarm, not to mention scouting ahead if you like doing so.

I play a ranger in every RPG and i can tell you that if you don't want a pure fighter is a very good choice for NWN due to the bonus feats.
I can tell you that during the OC i have soloed in some places and in generall i don't really have the urgent need to have a henchman with me. Of course this is entirely personal but i have managed to built so far a good tank for melee damage and a respectable tracker and regognition unit (very good in finding traps and very good detection).
My personal experiences. Hope i have helped u a bit

Your options will be a bit limited if you don't install the expansions because you won't have access to prestige classes. If you want a little magic using non-prestige classes, maybe you want a Rogue. A Rogue would be useful because the OC is full of locks and traps and you could take one of the fighting henchmen (the orc or the monk). Plus with Use Magic Item you could have access to a range of magic wands and spells etc for special occasions.

Install the expansion packs before playing the Official Campaign. The Expansions add new prestige classes, new feats, new spells and new skills. And, of course, all of the new stuff is available in the OC, e.g. you can be a Pale Master in the OC, though some things like stuff to Craft Traps and Dwarven War Axes won't exist.

If you want maximum difficulty and challenge, play a Harper Scout. :)

    Welcome jA

I like playing as a Monk he becomes quite devestating and if you play as a human you can add some wizard or sorceror levels without experience penalties :D

It depend whether you like hacking things or you like casting spells. I think the OC is balanced more in favour of melee fighters but the problem with that is that the spell casting henchmen have terrible decision making so you are better off with a melee henchman as they don't really need to make any decisions (other than "Charge!"). So if you want a spellcaster it really has to be the PC.

Prestige classes are great and add a whole new dimension to character generation and levelling up. But it is a bit of a challenge to come up with a case for the Harper Scout.

You'll have to be more exact about what you don't understand... the links I gave you explain pretty much everything.

Tal's link does explain it all really. There are some new classes in the expansion packs that you can take if you meet certain conditions. For example, if you take enough ranks in the Hide and Move Silently skill, then you can become a Shadowdancer and get some cool bonus abilities, like the ability to Hide in Plain Sight.

If you don't like a pure fighter, you can take a paladin or a ranger to have the same Base Attack Bonus progression as a fighter has and some spells, at the cost of less feats and Weapon Specialisation. Or you can take a fighter/cleric multiclass, or fighter/bard. Fighter/cleric is a very, very solid combo.

I strongly recommend installing all expansions and all patches before playing the OC. Prestige classes, feats and skills from the expansion are available for the taking in the OC when you have the expansions installed.

Has anyone played a pure Sorceror? I don't want to start one and suddenly discover that the game is grossly unabalanced in favor of melee fighters.

My brother says the OC is much easier with an arcane spellcaster, while the HotU expansion is tedious, sometimes boring and sometimes painfully difficult.

Parry is broken. The description says you can block as many enemy attacks as you can normally make per round. But the reality is that Parry is capped at three, as a result of a bug. IMHO it doesn't pay off, but I've never tried it. Hint: If you have 13 or more INT, you can take the Improved Parry feat for +4 to Parry checks. However, the normal Talent feat should also work because Parry is, after all, a skill. So combine Improved Parry with Talent (Parry) for a nice +7. There are also weapons that increase your Parry skills. Perhaps you can actually put it to some great advantage in the OC. I recall people mentioning Parry in the context of multiplayer games, so it isn't universally rejected by players. DEX should be your way, then, given it increases both the Parry skill and your AC, so you may as well focus on it for your Attack Bonus, too, with the Finesse feat. If Finesse, I suggest rapier for its 1d6 base damage, threat range 18-20, then the Improved Criticals feat for rapier, to make it score threats at natural 15-20. Find a keen rapier and it's going to be 12-20. Become a Weaponmaster with rapier as your chosen weapon and it can be 10-20. Keeping DEX high will be in your best interest in order to be able to confirm the threats with a hitting roll (high threat range doesn't help if you can't hit). It will also allow you to wear less armour and thus suffer less penalty to your skill checks, such as Parry. See how AB, AC, criticals and Parry can stick together? ;)

But it can be boring to give up all your attacks and get only 3 chances to strike at your enemy plus Attacks of Opportunity.

Ah, and Parry isn't made for spellswords (multiclassed warrior/mage type characters) who use short duration buffs. Spells are likely to expire before the combat ends.
