Definitely Sarevok. I was a vanilla player when I first encountered him. The IWD1 villians were crappy. Especially Belhifet. By the time I got to Irenicus and Isair/Madae, I knew the games so well that they were simple to defeat. Especially Jon.

The Transcendent One from Planescape Torment.

He's unlike any other antagonist out there.

Seconded. Sarevok might be a good second, but the Transcendent One definitely takes first place.

    [IMG] I'm actually quite torn.

Sarevok I found fairly simple, his motivations were simple and the evolution of his eventual character through Throne of Bhaal have left me with mixed feelings on the subject of himself as a villain. He was cruel, selfish, vindictive and ambitious, but driven by misguided desperation to fall in line with his blood fathers footsteps.

Blehifet struck me as unremarkable, probably largely as I played IWD so long ago now and I can't find CD 2 to reinstall it. This makes me sad.

Icasaracht, however, was gorgeous. My first encounter with a Dragon in the IE games and she was stunning in my opinion. The longest battle I have ever faced was against her (How I still had potions left afterwards I will never know) and her rage was incredible yet subtle with enough of a twisted nature for her to be a frenzied threat.

Jon is another good one, he is one of the few characters in any game I've managed to draw ire for. I could not find the pity the end of SoA tried to present as deserved for him. He called his own hell upon himself and blamed everyone from Bodhi to Ellesime for his failure. Note to self "Take that you bastard" is never acceptable to shout out at grandparents house. I first finished the game whilst staying with them one weekend

Melissan was transparent and uninspired. A disappointing enemy who could have had a lot more build and surrounding to her. I feel that if the expansion was bulked up instead of linear and focused on the epic overview it would have been more satisfying and revealing.

Isair and Madae were too easy to sympathise with from their cause even if their actions were unreasonable and ill planned. There is no indication on how they garnered so much power in what is depicted as a relatively short timespan. Some of their allies are also, from a background point of view, ill fitting. If IWD2 had more roleplay orientation it would perhaps have been wiser to broaden the legion and the direction the party had to choose.
