[IMG] I know Chaos Shield and Improved Chaos Shield benefit Nahal's Reckless Dweomer. What I don't know is if they improve the wild surge table when a normal spell triggers a surge. Could somebody clue me in if they do?

There was a thread on this a long time ago (around three, four years or so). It's gonna be hard to sift through all the threads since then though.

IIRC what the shields really do is that they prevent surges from having any effect at all, since the highest roll for a surge = spell is cast normally. So if you want some of the better surges you'll have to risk casting spells without them on, especially if your Mage's level is high (caster level can also affect the type of surge you get).
Lower level mages might benefit from the shields though.

I'm fine if the spells just being cast as normal. I'm just trying to determine if the shields (and levels I guess) reduce the risk of random surges.

They do. That's their primary function, really. The reason they also benefit NRD is that the dweomer forces a wild surge roll. Normally there's on a certain chance that the wild surge roll is called, and when it is the chaos shields help make sure you get either a positive benefit or normal spellcasting (if you hit the highest number on the wild surge roll).

Thank you. I'll be sure to include it in my buff rotation from now on.
