Don't forget about "Stalingrad", also a German production. Awesome movie, with a very realistic view on the hell that Stalingrad was, for both sides.

Other than that, i really can't think of Saving Private Ryan as propaganda. Those who do regard this as propaganda seem a bit frustrated towards America for whatever reason. I don't see propaganda when i watch SPR, all i see is a friggin good movie, and aren't movies here to entertain us ? Well, were you not entertained ?

No one ever said propaganda can't be entertaining. The best propaganda is packaged so cleverly that most people are unable to recognize it for what it really is behind the innocuous exterior. Unfortunately, the kind of propaganda that most people are not able to recognize is also the most effective one, because it shapes or changes people's opinions on a completely voluntary basis. Of course - you can't defend yourself against something that you don't perceive as an attack.

Honestly, most patriotic Hollywood movies are so shallow that the propaganda bit in them is obvious a mile away to most people. But that's fine, no one is forcing anyone to watch them, and if you do, you have to take the underlying patriotism present in most of them as an unescapable part of the movie. It's just the recognition of it that is important.

Once you can see that it's there, you can either dimiss it or believe it. But unless it's really awfully obvious and in-your-face, you can still enjoy such a movie. It just leaves a bit of a bad taste in your mouth in the end usually.

But anyway, the subject of this thread is really blatant propaganda linked in the original post, which is hardly difficult to recognize.
