Damien was busy setting the best barracade he could inside the samll bathroom, he used the but of his shotgun to remove the toilet and the sink and layed them on their sides near the corner. Damien was about to push a large metal cupboard over when he noticed a metal grate just above it, an air vent, a miracle. He pulled himself onto the top of the cupboard and prised open the grill, in a matter of seconds he was inside the air vent and had replaced the grill. He pulled his radio from his hip just has a loud crash signalled the failing of Damien's improvised door barracade.

"Sir, they've just broken through but I found an air vent, i'm inside it, and pretty sure it comes out in the briefing room where I first found them."

Damien was right, the air vent did come out in the first room. Standing there was 'Nathan', Damien drew and MP-7 and trained the laser onto the mans temple, thinking of a better idea, he silenty opened the grill and dropped to the floor, 'Nathan' turned at the noise and was met by the butt of a shotgun.

 

I followed the team up the stairs, my Bedouin robes flowing as we ran. They were definitely not the thing to wear to blend in on an aircraft carrier. We passed a door that was marked, "Emergency Supplies", and I ducked in it quickly.

There were some shiny silver asbestos fire proof suits and air tanks, and large chemical fire extinguishers. I pulled the robes off. Underneath I had on shorts, a tank top, a light Kevlar vest, and my weapons harness with pistols, grenades, and other gear. I put on a large fireproof suit, slipping a small .25 caliber semi-auto pistol in the right hand glove and my shocker-wand in the left glove. Finally I picked up a large chemical fire extinguisher.

Leaving the room, I pulled out a white-phosphorus grenade and dropped it in the room, quickly closing the door afterward and bolting down the corridor. After the explosion, I pressed an intercom on the wall and yelled, "Fire on the third deck, possible missile hit! Send in the damage control team!"

Then I ran up the stairs after the team.

 

Eli was following the Captain closely, with both pistols out and ready. Eli had impecable aim.

 

Nicolas opened his eyes and found himself slung over a rather large man’s shoulder. As bobbed up and down he wondered how this had happened. His plan was to kill all the soldiers under his command and join up with Alpha One before they could assassinate Alpha One. Obviously his plan had failed. His bosses master plan was to have one team of older non-kamikaze soldiers to create a diversion so that the team of the young soldiers could come in an assassinate Alpha One. He was to lead this team of young soldiers. The plan must’ve gone wrong because the diversion team was late or never made it. His team got restless and out of control when they saw the soldier they fired crazily at him not thinking. They abandoned him and then the soldier saw him and knocked him out. Nicolas guessed that their plan was to never come in the first place and just let his team fend for themselves and kill as many Alpha One as they could, if any of them came back they would kill them. Nicolas thought about it and figured out that it wasn’t so bad after all. Being kidnapped was just as good if not better than killing his team and joining up. Sure you didn’t have the glory but you avoided killing some of the people (even if mean to you) you’ve trained with all your life. So Nicolas’ plan was to act unconscious for now and then tell them the story when it was the perfect time.

 

Michael bolted up the stairs onto the fourth floor. One more to go until Damien. Yelling was coming from upstairs. Running along the fourth floor, his team trailing, a voice came over the captain's helmet.

"Tara? Captain Tara?" It was Schofield.

"Sir? What the hell is going on?" Michael yelled back.

"All I have time to say is this: watch your step. Charlie One, Delta and Bravo One have gone haywire. They are on the main deck. It's a massacre. And, apparently, the man named Nathan is aboard the ship hunting you down. No sign of Echo One yet, though."

Michael swore. Why?

"Well, sir, Echo unit is with us. Well, at least the captain is. Eli. He's with me."

No reply.

Then, Michael stopped. Level five. And at the end of the hall was the bathroom. And out of it stormed ten, armed soldiers.

 

I ran up the stairs to level four. There was an emergency exit down a corridor, and I went out it and found myself on the outside of the superstructure for the tower. There was a rung ladder going up and down. I slung the fire extinguisher over my back, then climbed up to level six and went back into the tower. I found the stairs and glanced down them. I didn't see anybody, but I heard lots of shouting.

I spoke into my radio, "Tara, this is Stephenson. I'm at the top of stairs of level six. I don't see anybody yet. For grenades I've got a smoke, two stunners, three frags, and a white phosphorus. Should I hold this position or come down the stairs?"

 

Eli took aim at the advancing soldiers and shot two shots from each pistol. He hit one soldier in both soldiers, and then another in the leg and in the thigh.

 

Michael let loose a powerful spray of bullets from his assault rifle as the enemies engaged them. two more of the black men fell before the Captain ducked behind the corner again, reloading. He watched as Eli jumped out and fired away, then took cover again. Then, Scot's voice came over teh radio in his helmet.

"Ok, soldier. Get ready to gives us some cover with any weapon you have. That gas grenade might help, though some of my men are missing masks. I'll tell you when we need the distraction, Until then, hold your position. I need to figure out how to get to Damien. Over."

All the time, he could hear and see the reign of bullets his team was recieving. He had to think quickly.

 

Damien was busy searching the briefing room when he heard gun shots and shouting from outside, he peaked around the door and saw the group of 'merceneries'(as he thought them to be) taking cover behind whatever they could and firing down to the other end of the corridor, Damien followed their bullet paths until he saw the rest of his team crowded at the top of the stairwell firing back. Deciding to take a risk he drew his MP-7 and kneeled just outside the door, he folded out the foregrip and stock for a better shot, then trained his laser on the closet enemy. Taking time to certify a kill shot, then he gave the trigger a short squeeze, three rounds hit the enenmy in the head, he dropped instantly. His friend turned, took note of his fallen comrade and Damien then set his rifle blazing, Damien rolled back inside.

 

Hal jumped out of cover and fired his assault rifle taking down a couple of enemies then leaped back to cover.

 

Michael jumped out again, just as Hal began reloading. He fired away blindly, hoping he wouldn't hit Scot or Damien. Suddenly, it hit.

Teh captain's shoulder exploded in red ooze as one of the enemy bullets truck him. Grimacing under the pain, Michael let off one more shot that hit his shooter, then rolled back behind the cover beside Hal.

He swore.

"Marines, I'm hit. Scot, do what you can."

 

There was a lot of shooting and yelling coming from down the stairs, but I couldn't see anybody. I heard Tara telling me to make my play, so I unslung my Uzi and walked down the stairs, holding the Uzi in my right hand and an armed frag grenade in my left. I peeked around a corner and saw several soldiers firing down the coridor, a few of them dead on the floor too.

I slid the grenade along the floor, and it came to rest perfectly right behind them. I ducked back around the corner and waited for the explosion. Immediately after it went off, I popped back around the corner. There were three soldiers still moving, and I finished them off with four bursts from my Uzi.

I keyed my mike. "Stephenson here. All clear up top."

 

Hal ordered a private to check on the Captain then stepped out into the corridor. Nothing shot at him so he moved up, assault rifle ready.

"Damien, you okay? All clear out here."

Seeing Stephenson, he snapped a salute at him.

"The Captain's wounded, Sir. And there seems to be a mess on the ship."

 

Damien was about the roll out into the corridor for another attack when he saw a grenade clatter past. He leaped back, behind one of the many desks around the room and waited for the explosion, it came, then a few short burts of automatic fire erupted. Then silence, before he ehard his name being called.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine."

He walked out of the briefing room and up to the two soldiers, he saluted to Stephenson.

"Sir, I think I found someone we might want to talk to."

 

I returned the salutes of the soldiers. "Medic, bring the captain up to this briefing room and get him stable. You and you," I said, pointing to two soldiers, "Guard the up and down stairs. Make sure they're hostile before you shoot, it might just be a sailor or damage control team coming to help out here."

The medic and two others carried the captain into the briefing room and laid him on the table. It looked pretty bad, he'd be lucky if there was no major bone damage.

"You two," I said pointing at two others, "Collect all the weapons and ammo from the hostiles in the hall. We may need to make a stand here. Who's your communications specialist?" A solidier raised his hand. "Get connected and monitor all comms on board. Let's see if we can figure out what the hell is going on. Everyone be ready to move out quick, as soon as the captain is stable, or sooner if we have to."

I laid the fireproof helmet on the table, but kept the suit on, it just might come in handy. "Now, let's see who we've got here, Damien." I looked at the person Damien had pointed to. "Well, gollee! He's just a kid! Hold him down in the chair." Three soldiers did so. The kid was pretending to be unconscious. I grabbed his upper lip and yanked it up quickly, and the kid's eyes flew open, but he didn't cry out. Tough kid.

"Good morning. You made me leave a perfectly nice sandwich to come hunt you down. I'm quite upset about that. Would you mind telling us just who the hell you are, and who sent you, so we can know who to go frag after we skin you alive?"

The kid looked at me defiantly.

"Oh, you're not going to talk? Well, we can deal with that, but later. We're going to bug out of here soon and we can't have you all doped up. Damien, cuff his hands behind his back, then wrap duct tape around his forearms, then duct tape up his whole torso. Leave his legs free, but fetter them with wire, so he can walk, but not run or kick. Duct tape his mouth too. Man, I love duct tape, it's so multitaskful." Damien went to work securing the kid.

"Medic, how's the captain? Can we move yet?"

 

Michael just lay there. If he moved, he was sure that his shoulder would crack open. Teh bullet was still in there.

So he just lay and watched, ignoring the pain as well as he could, as Scot took control. After everything was set, the man approached him.

"Scot. If your going to be bossing my little maggots around, you need to know this. Echo Unit: I don't know where they are. Best ask Eli over there. As for Charlie, Bravo and Delta, they were last on the flight deck. They're in on this. The're hostile."

There was silence for a moment.

"And, I believe Schofield may be dead." Schofield was the leader and commander of all One units. If he was dead, they were in a bit of trouble.

 

"Well Captain, it looks like you've gotten your monthly rations of FUBARs and SNAFUs all in one day." I looked at the medic, "Is he stable enough to move him?"

"Be better not to, but we don't have a choice, do we sir?" the medic replied.

"You got that right, soldier," I said. "What do you think we should do, Michael? Get off the ship, stay on and hide, or go hunting for Charlie, Bravo, and Delta? That would be a tough fight. And if they're just following some REMF's orders, there's no real reason most of those boys would have to die. They're pretty good boys, for the most part."

"At any rate, I think we should take the kid with us, wherever we go. He might have the information we'll need to get out of this hole and he could make an important hostage."

"This is why I prefer to work alone in hostile territory. There at least you know that everyone you meet wants to kill you. Here, who the hell knows anything anymore."

 

Hal walked over and checked his Captain then turned to Stephenson. His impassive face revealing nothing he looked the man over. Raising his eyes to the the other's he looked into them for a moment then drew himself up to full attention.

"Staff Sergeant Aeger here, Sir!" Then relaxing a little, "The Captain calls me Hal."

 

"Okay, Hal. We're going to move out of here in a minute or two, just as soon as we figure out where we want to go. When we do, I want you to take point. Choose two wingmen. The medic and three others will carry the Captain. Damien, you and another take the kid. Be ready to put a bullet in his neck if he tries to run for it, or if he in anyway becomes a burden to us. Comm guy, you're with me following Hal. You two over there will be our rearguard. Everyone get an extra weapon or two from the ones collected here. Eli, do have any idea where your team is? And if they will stand with us or not?"

I grabed an M-16 from the pile. In twenty seconds we were ready to go. If only we knew where the hell we were going.

 

Damien grabbed the arm of the bound kid while another soldier took his other and the third followed behind, his rifle out and ready. He slid his pistol from its holster and held it in front of the kids face, the kid just stared at it. Damien flicked off the safety to make sure he got the point.
