I agree completly DR. The point of the movie is not to reject human advance in science and the complete social structure they have. This movie, like basically all the stories like Pocahontas or Dances with wolves is ''Hey, our scientific breakthroughs doesn't mean our society is better in all ways''. The point of these stories is to say that just because aboriginals are not as advanced doesn't mean they're inferior or don't have things of value they can teach us. It's our arrogant way, as an advanced (scientifically) culture to snub other culture that are not equal to ours.

And that is precicely the angle in which the bad guys are portrayed. Like Saber said, they're not stupid, just greedy and they have no compassion for people they qualify as inferior. The colonel is not bloodthirsty. He doesn't want to kill every last Na'vi. He just wants to feed his vanity and his ego by flexing his muscle and send them cowering in hiding. When they attack the big tree, his first attempt his to scare them away. The incindiaries are only his second shot (and it can be argued that if he truly was bloodthirsty, inciendiaries would also have been inadequate). And the reason he dislikes diplomacy so much is he feels they shouldn't have to do that. To him, it's like this : If you're a 250 pound muscle man standing in front of a five year old holding a million dollars, you shouldn't have to barter, have endless discussion or try to convince him to give it. Just take it, he can't defend it!

The business man represents the selfish person who does what he better suit his situation. I don't think it's him that profits from the ore. I think he's just a highly paid manager, not an actual investor. He basically will do anything to make sure everything goes smoothly because if he don't, he'll get the boot. It's said that the shareholders don't like bad publicity, but even less bad quarterly projections. And it's hinted that he doesn't really agree with what has to be done, but will do it anyways as to not lose his job, which is almost worst in my book.

So I guess you could say the message of the movie is to not let your vanity or selfishness get in the way of how you view other cultures, other ways of life.

Actually, that's a pretty text-book definition of a psychopath. A psychopath isn't halucinating, or delusional, they just don't give sh** about anyone or anything but themselves. They're typically more charming and manipulative than those two were, though.

And I think this is important because any movie, TV show, or book portraying such psychopathic behavior as anything other than the result of a severely derainged and abnormal mind is being dishonest. Here, it's just presented as plain greed, like it happens all the time and we've all seen it. That guy over there have something you want? Offer to buy it from him. He doesn't want to sell? Kill him and take it! If these two were portrayed as people who had been kicked out of every other job because of their psychopathic tendencies, as derrainged and bizzare people, it would have made a lot more sense.
