Well I've played the game ever since it came out, so I have pretty much heard everything they have to say. But I will probably pick some of them up for quests.

Right now I'm in the Planar Sphere. The halflings were quite a hassle, and even though I've only tried the battle once, the coin golem seems pretty hard to beat, concidering my weapons have no effect against it, and that it deals out about 47 in damage each hit.

I might be wrong here, but I think the problems arise more when changing the classes of NPC's because in IA they will no longer be able to use their NPC-specific items. I don't think messing with your main character causes issues, but Sikret would be better able to answer that. (Of course, he's going to say not to do it anyway because he hates cheaters (I prefer the term "optimizers"). :p)

IA's "special" golems are very difficult, particularly for low-level parties. Plus IIRC, they can only be hit by weapons of a certain minimum enchantment (maybe 3, but I'm not certain of that).

Yeah, only one of my characters could hit the coin golem. He was wielding a +3 warhammer, which is +4 in damage. The problem was that he only did 2-4 in damage each hit, so it was a long fight. Now I'm in a situation with 2 coin golems and a gem golem, so that's going to be even tougher.

Actually, it does create issues. To trigger the new quests (which are specific to certain classes), the mod checks the protagonist's class and if it doesn't detect a valid and legal class, it won't allow the player to see the quest.

Yes. Moreover, each golem type is more resistant to some damage types and more vulnerable to others. The player should figure out (during the game, not by looking the creatures' files in an editor) the weak points of each enemy type. Choosing the right weapon type is the key point while fighting those golems. Certain types of golems are more vulnerable to piercing damage (means attack them with halberds or short swords); some others are more vulnerable to crushing (means attack them with long, bastard, 2 handed swords or axes) and some other types are more vulnerable to blunt weapons.

This is generally true for all other new types of monsters introduced to the game by IA (not merely the golems).
