Ranger dual to Cleric. They have great offense, cast both cleric and druid spells, are protected by Iron Skins and Blade Barrier, and use Crom.

    Yes...that's a nice class indeed.
A bit difficult at first though, but maybe it's only because I really don't have the patience to play as a cleric when there are so many cleric NPCs around.

I have to agree with Volkov - True ranger is wicked - and archer isn't too bad either.

    A pure Fighter or Beserker.

As with any Melee fight one must have outstanding Offense as well as outstanding Defense. A Fighter gets the best THACO than others, he can GM with any weapon (cept Bows) and can wear any Armour.

Even if a sword wielding opponent has a low number to hit an AC of 0 that may not be good enough while going toe to toe with a Fighter. Especially if the Fighter has MAXIMUM AC of -15 (without spells/potions) with an additional -4 for slashing weapons given by Full Plate. -19 to hit with a sword!

The Maximum AC is: -1 AC Mithral Plate or Red Dragon Scale, -4 AC for 18 Dex, +2 ring O Protect, +2 Ring Gaxx, +1 Helm of Balduran, +5AC Sentinal Shield. (technically speaking he could wear the Cloak of the Sewers, other weapons/girdles have AC modifiers as well)

Even if the opponent can hit the Fighter, how many hits will be successful against a -15AC? How many successful hits will a Fighter land in the same time vs an armorless or weakly armored opponent? 4-5 hits a round by a Fighter with GM can devestate more often than other classes combined WITH the ability to recieve much more than others classes. Offense and Defense taken together make the Fighter or Beserker the best 'rounded' class for fighting.

Well, when you put it that way Draco, the math does the talking.
In answer to the question however, my favourite character to play has to still be a monk.
Granted I've only tried a kensai/mage and a monk, but I just received plenty of enjoyment from the monk class. He can find traps, move silently, has supernatural abilities, quick movement, cool animations, lethal fighting speed, awesome immunities, decent AC, delivers decent damage, knocks arrows out of the air, immune to poison, etc.
All of this with no weapons, armor or anything.
The fun part is that these abilities are gained with increase in level and so the playing style of a monk is constantly evolving. (As with other classes I suppose)

[IMG] Kitiara ... you could create an mc swashbuckler-mage with shadowkeeper. He should be elven for the dex-19.

You´ll get -2 AC, have unrestricted thieving abilities, your THACO will level up like a fighter but since a thief can get more levels ...

And since there is an illusionist-thief, ahem, why shouldn´t there be swashbuckler thief ...

A level 9 kensai and level 10 mage is a very formidible class.

the kensai fighting skill make him icredibly powerful, and spells from the mage class can improve the armor of the kensai (don't forget kensai can wear ANY mage robe). with a kensai/mage i can beat a red dragon in a one to one combat (without using cloud kill.

the best weapon for kensai/mage is the celestial fury.

[IMG] I kinda like the druid/shapeshifter class, but my definate class is paladin/cavalier, mainly because if you think about it, the good stuff is real nasty stuff while the bad stuffis only that you cant become proficient in missile weapons.....oh boo hoo who cares about not being able to fire missiles from someone whos gonna be a melee character anyway.

Draco, I agree with you to a point...
Hand to hand, a pure Fighter equipped with the items you mentioned is unbeatable... but he stands little chance against a mage's spell of Imprisonment, against which his armor class, magic resistance, and saving throws are completey irrelevant.

The mage has to get close enough to touch him in order to Imprison him; and I do believe magic resistance would make a difference...

[IMG] Kensai - No doubt. I put all proficencies in long sword then the next ones into 2-weapon style. Equipped him with the Equalizer and the Blade of Roses +3 and boots of speed. Just give him the girdle of piercing an some other stuff and he could take on an army even with his low AC. I mean, even if he's easy to hit, how're you gonna hit him if you're dead the moment he draws his weapons? ;)

Actually did anybody try giving a Kensai 3 pts in 2 handed swords, 2 in Spears and 2 in 2handed style?

The Silver sword and the Impaler spear would wreak infinite havoc in the hands of a Kensai. I find these 2 weapons to be really underrated, especially the Impaler Spear.

I have played a full game with both a kensai and a monk and they can both take any creature or character in bg2 short of the demilich by themselves and still win but when they are fighting multiple enemies they die very quick. For fun I slaughtered my party members and all of amn with my level 21 monk without any healing potions. His magic resistance beats the cowled enforcers and his immunity to normal weapons beats the paladins of the radiant heart so dont worry about those weaklings when burning amn to the ground.

Caleb I played a Monk as well. But apparently I played him differently... I played him as a GOOD GUY :)

You murderin' psychopath. But I agree a Monk is devestating. My Monk was a struggle at lower levels but god-like at higher levels. I also played a Kensai but abandoned him around 12th level -just not a powerful enough Fighter type offensively AND defensively.

And as far as the MAZE spell comment... My Beserker Rage takes care of that. -Makes me Immune to such silly tricks. -being dense, dumb and uncontrollably angry has it's advantages! :)

[IMG] I prefer to play with a party made up by me, then I choose THREE characters so that I can still have some NPCs. Here are my choices:

Kensai/Mage (Takes the main fight, kick ass)
Monk (At higher levels he ROCKS)
    Thief/Cleric (Healing, traps, backstabbing)

I am thinking of trying out a new self-made party of three monks. What do you think, this specialisation has a tendency to leave major gaps in the defences, but how about monks Dueled into a thief, a mage and a cleric?
