    The cavern of heart
    Treasure of delight
    In dark corner hide
    Blooming hope so bright

    Flower of despair
    Whithered and forlorn
    Never more will grow
    Forever be gone

    Away vile evil
    Replaced in a rose
    The fountain of life
    Sweet the future grows

There are still things I might change about this one, but you judge....

    WINTER SINGS

Winter sings its coming song beneath the frozen trees
And cold breezes whisper in an ecstasy of expectation
As the vast and innumerable concentrate on a single point of light.
It is a moment of birth.
Guard well your choices, for they are
The most precious thing you have. Each is a seed, each is a flower.
Possibility may blossom beneath the barren ground like a secret
Nurtured inside a womb of fate.
Let there be -- infinite variety, let there be -- uncertainty,
Till all the world hangs on the faces of the coin
And you cannot distinguish which is which.
Let there be many paths, and some shall rest unwalked,
Let there be more seeds than there are instants in infinite time,
Let there be hope, and maybe it shall fall to earth
One day, and the land will rise in exaltation.
    Cherish it. Between your palms,
    Winter sings.

Wow! You guys really display some talent! If you really love poetry try going to Allpoetry.com it's a bit like Sorcerer's Place but all about poems, and you can critique other people's poems (and get points) and they'll critique yours. It's good -- try it out. And even though I feel like an amatuer as well when I read all these really good poems I can't really be called an amatuer because I have been published. So I'm going to put in the first poem that got me published because it is by far the best of any I've done.

    The Strike Of Lightning:

The strike of lightning is one that comes swift
One flash, one boom, quickly darting away
But in that instant many things will rift
And it’s impossible to tell what will stay

The strike of lightning comes quick in the night
And the thunder that follows, though slower, is loud
And all you can see is that instant burst of light
And that which you hear, is the laughter of the clouds

With just one strike your life may never again be the same
In just an instant everything you’ve known may disappear
Leaving you breathless and forgetting even your name
Leaving only your deepest, darkest fears

But in the end, that storm must travel a distance
And if you are wise, you see it building
You can feel it, as the air gets tense
You can see what weapon the wind is wielding

But I can be a bit reckless in storms
Laughing in the face of danger
Give me the wind and rain in all forms
I’m willing to face its anger.
