You're kidding, right!? Last time I looked, oil was close to $60 per barrel (not that I think this is necessarily a bad thing). Regardless, the current administration surely does not mind this, since their friends in the oil industry get to make out like bandits.

As about imposing economic sanctions, I very much doubt that's going to work. Iran is quite a big country, with a lot of resources. Plus you'll have to convince Russia to support the sanctions, which does not look like it's going to happen.

Full out invasion is out of question, too. I woud say that if US (or Israel) decide to take action, the most probable course is a quick strike to destroy their nuclear facilities. Apparently there have been some talks with Turkey about this:

Both Russia and China have trade deals with Iran. China, hungry for oil now that cars are becoming more widespread there, recently inked a major oil supply deal with Iran.

The likelyhood of the US taking any sort of military action against Iran is about as likely as Bush buying an electric car.

The "president" of Iran has about as much political power in Iran as the Queen has in England. He can give all the speaches he wants -- who cares? Toledo, OH, recently had a nazi rally in town square. Maybe we should invade?

I have to weigh in on this -- I respect the right of some people, even those in authority, to be opposed to the existence of Israel. That's a position. To state that the Holocaust never happened is a denial of reality, so I can't get behind that.

Someone mentioned earlier that it was just sabre rattling, but many Middle Eastern countries have shown a distressing willingness to attack Israel. I'll guarantee this, though -- if they were to move on Israel, the U.S. would go in there to protect their allies. They would if the President were Republican, Democrat, Green, Independent or Communist. Israel is too valuable an ally for the U.S. to leave hanging.

    @ Fink
The President of Iran has the support of the Grand Ayatollah Khameni...that's a significant backing in an Islamic Government. Puts him way over the Queen.

An insane, nutcase loud-mouth with no real power...hmmm...isn't that what they said about Hitler?

...And some other leaders a bit closer to home. :)

Oh, yes, and the price of oil at record highs? That's "real genius" at work there. :p
