    It doesn't use fire resistance. I have 106 fire resistance, and about 4 seconds of hellspike exposure still kills me.

    I don't think there's any way of protecting from Hell Spikes. You just have to keep running and hope you can avoid them.

    Hmmm. Then I have no idea how to prevent hellspike damage. I know they had really pissed me off throughout the game though. I guess you have to keep a lot of restoration potions on you.
