    My favourite party is:

    1) PC thief/mage
    2) Imoen thief (7)/mage
    3) Viconia
    4) Korgan
    5) Sarevok
    6) Mazzy

I don't know what the most powerful party would be. My party above is powerful enough :) .

Western paladin is right. this game is not about sexing. here's a part from Extremest's romancing guide:
"Romances are not something you must do to finish the game. They are there only to relieve possible boredom, or to spice up the game a bit. I guess romances are there also to make the game more realistic"
and halfling save+paladin bonus save...... that would be good

From my experience I think the most rawly powerful party would be:

    - Korgan
    - Sarevok
    - PC Ranger/Cleric
    - Viconia
    - Imoen
    - Edwin

That is, of course, paying no heed whatsoever to roleplaying or my own personal preference. Although there isnt a character in BG2 that I truly cannot stand, the above combination is so powerful that frankly I would find it dull.

My favourite party changes depending on what PC I'm taking. I like Aerie, for instance, but there's no point taking her if my PC is a cleric/mage. However, I almost always take Imoen and Mazzy, and Edwin, Jaheira, Aerie and Keldorn are frequently used as well. When Neville the half-elven cleric mage whomps Sarevok in BG1, his BG2 party will most likely be as follows:

    - Keldorn
    - Mazzy
    - Jaheira
    - Neville
    - Imoen
    - ???

Might just leave the sixth slot blank until I get to TOB and then pick up Sarevok, especially as I'm playing with the Ascension and Redemption mods for the first time, or I might take Edwin to further bolster the party's artillery section. Haer'Dalis is another possibility. Hmmm ...

I dispise "wasting" those experience points on a character I don't plan on taking to the end of the game.

    @Will
I like it! My only switch would be Viconia for Keldorn. Carsomyr makes Keldorn one of the most powerful NPCs in the game, and a high level Cleric really isn't needed.

    "Roleplay" wise

    PC - CE FIghter/Berserker
    Aerie - main romantic interest
Jaheira and Viconia - fun to have 3 women fighting over 1 hot male > :p
    Minsc/Sarevok - damage dealer
    Jan - "SO, Binky...."

That tingling feeling that a naive/innocent elf turned a warrior from the "dark side" (Darth Vader breathing) is so...classic. :)

    "Gameplay wise"

PC - Cavalier (Inquisitor MR and immunity to hold is great, but I just *HATE* it when my strongest warriors are running with their tails between their legs). Also, one sword sez it all: CARYSOMYR+6
Jaheira - A VERY good investment once she gets her feats. Also, a romantic interest for the power gamer like me
Keldorn - Decent meat shield/damage dealer. If you can also dup the Carsomyr...
    Anomen - ditto
    Minsc/Sarevok - Ditto
Imoen - just keep her supply of thievery potions and she should be fine.

My ideal party and favourite party are one and the same. The characters I like to bring along kick ass yet I also bring them along for roleplaying reasons.

    1) Elven Fighter/Mage - As rockin' as it gets. Also an ideal match for ...

    2) Jaheira - Levels the opposition with her scimitar, defends herself well with plate armor and a shield, and brings plenty of useful spells. This is especially true when she hits her 15th level, which I manage to do relatively early with a trick or two. Oh and, she's my PC's beloved.

    3) Keldorn - I sort of view Keldorn as a much needed father figure after the PC has lost Gorion. Provides gentle reminders of the dangers of having Bhaal's blood. Rocks with Carsomyr.

    4) Imoen - My spunky little sis with a playful sense of humour. Useful both as the main damage caster and the party thief.

    5) Anomen - Every partyy needs somebody who makes a bad initial impression. He does improve once Keldorn gives him some tough love. Both a great cleric and a decent melee fighter.

    6) Minsc - Certainly has some sentimental value as a goofy but well-intentioned ranger. Mixes well with Imoen. Provides some melee power as well.

    or ...

Sarevok - Once in a while I play with 5 through SoA and then bring Sarevok on board, both for his fighting power and the classical story of redemption.
