    The funny thing about the vacuum is that in relativistic quantum physics there are "virtual particles" that continually pop in and out of existence beyond our ability to detect them directly. Apparently, there are subtle phenomena that are accurately predicted by taking these particles into account.

    But the latest thinking (based on calculations in quantum mechanics)is that the "nothingness" before the Big Bang was unstable as a consequence of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle and so became something :).

    I don't pretend to really understand these things; I'm only relating things that I've read about to you...
