I would actually really enjoy seeing him succeed (if he can) in doing practical things. My concerns are about the Supreme Court, mostly because I don't want him putting in someone who is going to double down on Citizen's United (I really think that was a terrible case).

I am very interested in his nominee because, before he actually ran, his views seemed much more moderate than what he was espousing during the election cycle. If he puts in a relatively moderate person, I, for one, would be very relieved.

My views on the Second Amendment are that most states are going to continue to apply reasonable restrictions to guns (obviously, some a lot more than others, and Texas probably never, but it is what it is).

On Roe v. Wade, I am personally troubled only in an abstract sense, given that even if the Supreme Court does away with it, California is way more liberal than virtually every state so the right to choose isn't going away here. I think it will go badly for poor people in deep red states if they cannot get a legal abortion because they are still going to get the abortion, it will just be much more dangerous. I personally think that the right to choose should exist, but I am not even slightly religious. As an aside, frankly, Roe v. Wade was terrible from a legal perspective - just a bad legal argument. That being said, I think it was necessary for the time and remains so.

I also am troubled by the evisceration of the Voting Rights Act in that I do not believe that the ills it was created to address have all gone away, and I suspect that a conservative justice is going to go along with the continued removal of its provisions.

    My two cents.

Common sense in politics definitely would be shocking.

Common sense is shocking regardless of where you happen to see it.

All I can say on this matter as a lifelong resident of the NW suburbs of Chicago is that I can't figure out which has shocked me more. The Cubs winning the World Series or Trump winning the election.

One thing I'm sure of is that hell has frozen over. It explains why it was so unseasonably warm in the first week of November. All the heat from hell was rising to the surface.
