Is magic really necessary anymore?

I was once criticised for saying it, but I found that combat magic = Edwin was quite useless in the later stages of TOB. Protection magic = Anomen was useful. Since there is so much magic resistance and immunity towards TOB time, magic degenereated to simply protecting myself, and besides a simple beserker rage suffices! Things like fireball and all the other fun magic became a joke. Edwin would stand around and look "pretty". I do admit though that I was in "fighter mode" at the time and I am sure that I would change tactics if my main characters were more magic reliant...

In the dual NPC/romance mod that I hope to start making in the near future, there will be a new kind of creature that can only be hurt by using magic. The reasoning behind it is that the fighter concentrated on his fighting skills so much that he became immune to every kind of attack except magical attacks. :rolling:

to ejsmith, i played through the game using very little magic and doing all the quests except kangaax which i skipped because i was bored and wanted to move on to chapter 4

killing firkraag was pretty much the last thing i did before going to brynnlaw and saving imoen so i had pretty nice items to hit him and other lich/dragon types with

sure items are expensive but a high rep and doing the quests can easily cover that, i finished SoA with about 150k gold in my coffers and then i spent alot of it buying the best arrows when i ran across stores that sold them

[IMG] Magic is absolutely NOT necessary.

Half-orc Kensai or a fighter imported from BG1 (con 19) can best all out there.

I remember buffing my kensai with every spell i got and then charging him against Demogorgon.
He really but up the guy to near-death condition before he made a run for his life ;) .

    Awfuly powerful.
Even to much for my liking so i kicked him out (mute multiplayer char).

I've taken both Kangaxx, all the Dragons and everything I know without using magic. Since I've soloed a Swashbuckler/Fighter, twas not much of a choice.

I've soloed with a Ranger. Yes, it's quite possible. The problem is that you get to powerful(When I left Athkatla the first time I had 5,6 mill. exp.) :) :)

[IMG] I think that magic is cool and usefull to ease things (like some difficult battles) and to quickly dispose some easy enemies without consuming time from the fighters to kill them. After hasn't anyone come to the situation where three or four enemies close up on your fighter and you just don't have a second one to take at least one down well there the magic is rather usefull and fun because the creature didn't know what hit him.
