    The difference between an execution and a time in jail is that, if the authorities make the wrong man ride the lightning, this "mistake" is irreversible - and once dead you don´t have much use for an excuse.

    Proceeding rights, like the right to have an attorney (if guilty or not - mind that you have to be considered innocent until sentenced) or consular support when you´re from a foreign country, are made to help the innocent to prove their innocence.

    They have *not* been implemented by liberal idiots (or sinister diplomats) to make a criminal's life easier.

    Ragusa - I simply made the distinction between their trial and their sentencing. You said their trial was unfair; I would disagree with that.

    I will admit to the possiblilty that their sentencing could have been influenced by the political pressure that Germany certainly would have employed, though I doubt it since nothing changed once Germany found out about it...
