I just decided to play a dualclassed swahbuckler-mage now. I don´t want him to be a perfect thief so I chose to focuss on stealth and pickpocketing. He´s unable to backstab but (a) he has -2 AC, (b) he can specialise in his weapons and (c) he can use three proficiency slots for dual wielding (in my case: daggers and katanas).
All in all some good points and I will have to change my fighting style compared to a dc fighter/ thief (backstabbing) or a dc fighter-mage (too good in meleee, so sometimes I forgot to cast).
The dc swashbuckler-mage will have to sneak around and needs his wits more than his fists/ blades. It should be fun to play him.
