the paladin his history.... i've just completed bg1 with a solo ranger, i beat Sarevok with arrows of piercing, never found him so easy

i've imported the ranger in bg2 only to make him an archer, with grand mastery in long bow i feel this is gonna be fun

 

Archer is very fun, but I never tried him solo. Good luck.

 

Strong Arm is the best bow in the game (if you have a 19 strength) -- but you need to do the first level of Watcher's Keep as early as possible to make it really viable.

 

yeah i have 19 in str and the bow of marksmanship from bg1, but the one everybody seems to be talking about is heartseeker...

how come, it is sold in the adventurer's mart

my real concern is how to get rid of golems, as i have put all of my points in ranged weapons

Slings? Or, Crom Fayr insta-kills stone and clay golems? You may not have any points in the weapon, but you've still got 25 Str, a good THAC0, and a bonus from a magical weapon.

 

or bypass them with stealth hehe...

also, in which shops can i find arrows of dispell ? i'm gonna need those when i am to take on mages (in mike's rpg center i only find them listed for bg1)

 

Heartseeker is +4 to hit, +2 damage. Strong Arm is +3 to hit, +3 damage -- I'd rather have the extra damage. Ripper is the only other bow that also adds damage (+3 to hit, +2 damage). The issue with long bows is ammunition (to fix that you need to go to Watcher's Keep). The best weapons are short bows (Tuigen bow being my favorite for an archer).

What ranged weapons? Bow of Gesen (fires magical +4 arrows) does very well but isn't available until rather late. Bow of Tasheron (fires magical +3 arrows) is available in trademeet. Perhaps Everard's sling would work as well (if you don't "fix" it, the sling also adds strength bonuses). You really just need to pair the golem against the type of damage it is vulnerable to (piercing or crushing -- you're hosed on slashing untill you put one point in a melee weapon).

 

i wasnt planing on using short bows, right now i got my archer grand mastery in long bow and specialized in crossbow (i want to purchase firetooth)...

The giant hair crossbow is quite good as well. With the class bonuses the light crossbow of speed is the highest damage crossbow for an archer (along with the drow crossbow of speed). The extra attack really adds up for an archer.

 

unfortunatley i didnt purchase the light crossbow of speed in bg1, that was silly of me

but Necaradan's Crossbow given by adalon seems to be even faster (speed factor of 2 vs 3 for the light crossbow of speed)

 

You can purchase one in the Copper Coronet.

 

Speed factor sure helps, but crossbow of speed gives an extra attack, thus it is still better than Necaradan's, who shoots faster in a round but only once. Also IIRC that crossbow had some penalty too.

 

i had to purchase the crosbow of speed anyway, because by selling my old stuff (like tamoko's full plate +1) my archer doesnt need anymore i had raised more than 15000 gp and he's not at the level required for vampire hunting

other than that i dont like the comment odren makes about my char not having the level to wander through watcher's keep, although he's right lol

well i must admit the archer is a difficult kit to solo with, obviously at low lvl the stalker outmatches him, but i wanna see if this changes when attaining elite lvl
