Heh, that's great, Abomination. I can't help but to heartily agree with that. [Wasn't me, I was quoting Abomination - dmc] [Oops, you're right, fixed that. You could have shamelessely taken credit for that, y'know :shake: ]

I have to disagree here. I don't know for you guys, but I, personally like to learn more about other cultures. As for religion, believe in whatever in the nine hells you possibly want, but leave me out of it. If the sensitive matter of religion can be put aside, learning tidbits from a different culture is a great experience.

A noble thought, indeed. However, I do not see why this would necessitate becoming romantically inovlved with someone from a different culture. I agree with your general premise - I have friends from diverse cultural backgrounds as well. I just never saw this as a reason to actually date someone who meets that criteria.

This pretty much sums me up. If she wants me to conform to her culture or religion I'll show her the door (only after warning a few times of course) much like how I would expect her to do the same to me if I tried to convince her to change her religion or culture. Put it simply if we're going to be at odds on a moral ground we simply won't mesh anyway, so best to break it off now.

Well, I don't think he means it as criteria, I think DotW means this as an added 'perk' of dating someone from a different background. I've learned alot about other cultures from my girlfriends and probably more than my friends simply because being closer to your girlfriend and usually more open (Kiwi bloke thing, don't get me started) or at least in my case, you can ask those more 'personal' questions without worry. Also I have a close Sweedish friend, a close Isralie (wagh, spelling) friend and a close Indonesian friend and one thing they all have similar, they don't like me asking too much about their culture because it makes them feel like I'm just their friend because they're from another culture, not because I actually like them for who they are... it's complicated and this thread isn't about that but it's just about how you can learn alot more about other cultures from your spouse than your friends.

No, of course it doesen't involve being romantically involved with someone, but I spoke from personal experience. I've had more lovers than friends of different racial backgrounds.

Exactly. But like I said, it doesen't necessarely involve romance.

@DotW - sorry that I misinterpreted your post. What I was really trying to point out is that to find out about people from other cultures, you don't have to date someone from that culture. Although you seem to think that dating someone from a different culture is just an added perk - which I can agree with.

No sweat, Aldeth, I admit I can be a bit confusing and hard to follow sometimes.

But yes, it's an added perk. A great opportunity to learn more about other cultures. I learned a lot, and I don't regret it at all. Only a fool doesen't seek to broaden it's horizons.

I generally think it's foolish to fall for just one trait and make things depend on it totally. Whether it's a different race or anything like hair colour, body type, particular interest or something.
