    Satan was infact an angel in the pre-earth life. He proposed an alternative to Jesus's plan and was outvoted. He then took his followers and rebelled. They were all thrown out...

    Or for those who believe that Jesus is some aspect of God the plan was made before God created Saturn.

    The way I understand it all is that god sent his son down to us, meaning that Jesus already existed before he was born into mortal form. Makes me wonder with whom god had this son...

    Actually, an alternative plan for the salvation of mankind wasn't made until it was clear that an alternative plan for salvation would be needed. Satan was auspiciously around prior to the first covenant. I'd also like to point out that Satan doesn't really get a lot of mention in the bible. There are absolutely no scriptural references to Lucifer falling because he was jealous of the new covenant that Christ would create with man. In fact, there are no scriptural references to the fall of Lucifer at all.

    This is starting to turn into a theological debate surrounding Christianity in general, hint > separate thread.

    I realize that this extends naturally from a discussion of scientology, but ... all it takes is for somebody to open up a separate thread to keep this momentum going.

    As with all religions -- there's good and bad. I've read dianetics and it has some good common sense approaches to dealing with many of lifes problems. It also has a lot of stuff that I don't agree with. That's the reason I left the Mormon church -- I just didn't agree with a lot of it, but I keep the good stuff as a part of my life (such as the importance of family).

    For example, I personally have a distrust for psychiatry (but not a hatred for it) and many of my beliefs in how to deal with minor issues are in dianetics -- unfortunately, many people just run to their shrink (or other worse things) for every little thing instead of learning to cope and get through the issue. My mother had her valium, my daughter has her shrink, I tend to use exercise and meditation to get through stress.

    Major psychosis is different and requires professional help.
