What I like about Steward and his Daily Show are their biting mock interviews with their special correspondents. Take this formidable clip (in .wmv format). They of course do have an opinion, and don't hesitate to voice it. They add perspective, something you will not be given on Fox.

But they excell at and by pointing out the utter absurdity of administration utterings on Iraq especially. Take the Arab rhetoric out, and Baghdad Bob could work at the Whitehouse. For some odd reason it's always the left which is best at that. Show me a right-wing, conservative comedian who's actually funny.

Well, Rags, humor is like beauty -- it's in the eye of the beholder.

As for the message of the left being fundamentally flawed, that's hilarious! I think they do a very effective job of propagating their message in all areas even without demegogues like Rush on their side.

Although, I've never heard the guy for more than 30 seconds, so can anyone enlighten me on this James Carvell guy? (I likely spelled it wrong) -- He's the bald guy with glasses from CNN's Crossfire, IIRC. He's popular and leftist, no?

Carville used to be Bill Clinton's lead campaign strategist and is a very outspoken left-leaning media personality. Though he's pretty famous as top liberals go, he doesn't hold a candle to Rush or Ann Coulter. Most people have never heard of him.

As to Comedy Central: though Stewart et al definitely lean to the left, they contend that they go after whomever is the biggest target, and thus, who will make the best jokes. If you watch the show regularly, they lampoon the left nearly as often as they do the right. The only reason the right gets it more these days is because the Bush administration and their defenders are so ridiculous and that they do most of the Daily Show's writing for them. It'll likely be the same when the next Dem gets in the white house.

I don't think the Daily Show has an agenda other than making people laugh and highlighting the absurdity of DC politics and the mainstream "news" establishment. Partisanship alone does not a funny show make. Just look at Fox's pathetic "Half Hour New Hour," their blatant Daily Show ripoff. It's remarkably un-funny.
