The locals complain that driving license are getting more expensive and more difficult to get hold of, but I think it's a sorely needed development. I have yet to obtain a license myslef, but I'm not complaining. Back in Holland, driving licenses are among the most expensive in the world, and the qualitly of the schooling is excellent in comparison. Still, you have idiots in every country.

Yeah it can be quite pricey in the UK too, your practical test costs about £60 and the theory £40, you don't really have much of a chance of passing until you've atleast 20 hours of practice with a trained individual (learning to drive with your parents doesn't work, learning to drive and learning to pass the test are very different) at atleast £25 an hour - so you're looking at about £600 minimum. With the added cost of buying a car and your first year's insurance (I was 20 when I bothered to do my test and my first years insurance on a £700 car was £1300) you can do a thing called 'pass plus' which costs about £150 and the insurers are supposed to give you a discount on your insurance (most don't).

Even with that the standard of some people's driving is appalling.
