Top Gun, Top Secret and Willow are the films that spring to mind. Can't really see a British band that didn't make it big in the states doing the music for Top Gun (& it's been mentioned earlier).

I can narrow it down a bit here. The movie was "Real Genius," which also featured a number of good 80s bands, and is considered an "80s" classic movie.

    Edit:
I never thought this could happen
I never thought I could feel this way
Till this strange reaction -- today

Have mercy, Chandos. I googled the answer and even the All Music Guide admits that the band is often referred to as "that group that had the song in that one scene of Real Genius". And we are supposed to know them?

How about a new set of lyrics? No offence...

BTW, Real Genius is considered a classic movie? By whom? "Some kind of Wonderful" being regarded as classic as well? ;)

Darkthrone - It's not considered a classic by me, but those who are into "generational" movies. For instance, my wife likes the Breakfast Club, which I think is terrible. While IMO, Better Off Dead is a classic. The thing about Real Genius, like all the other generational films is that they featured some pretty good 80s music. Here's the best link I could find that has a list of the music.

    http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/7350/music.html

But the Comsat Angels was more than just the band that did that song in Real Genius (I'm Falling). They have a real of cult following. A few years back I registered on one of their sites, while searching for a few out of print CDS to add to my collection, and for the next several months found my mailbox filled with messages and assorted spam from Comsat fans.

Nevertheless, The Comsat Angels, sometimes known as The C.S. Angels, were a fantastic band. They were sued by the Communication Satellite Coporation, and were forced to drop the "Comsat" from their name (you would think corporate America would have better things to do with its time).

But the song is from their "Chasing Shadows" CD, and the "Cutting Edge" is probably the best song off that CD, and was released as a 7" single in the US market. For all of you who have not heard these guys, the Comsats will be a pleasant surprise. Their best CD, IMO, is "Sleep No More." I recommend them very highly. Here's more than you will probably ever want to know about CSA:

Since, I have monopolized this thread for so long with this one entry, it seems fair that I retire my turn. So I'll pass it to you, Darkthrone, since you posted last.

Alright, not that it was my intention but here we go:

    If I could, I'd make a suggestion
    Without sounding preachy
    Or begging the question
    Melt with your minds
    Melt with each other

For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know.

Whee! Now I have to think of something. Mmmh...
Here comes one of my recently bought album's quotes:

Because the streets are alive with the sound of
    Boom Bap!
I can hear it once again.
Every flower got a right to be bloomin'!"

@MoN: Spearhead - Stay Human. This was a tough one... I just remembered the Boom Bap part, 'cause I had been listening to it at a friends house the other day. Had to call and ask him...

Correct. I was aiming for Michael Franti, but I was listening to an acoustic CD of songs he did with Spearhead before. :D

    Go ahaed, lad.

    Edit:
I was wrong with the lyrics, too:
because the streets are alive with the sound of
    Boom Bap!
Can I hear it once again.
    Boom Bap!
    Tell'ya neighbour, tell a friend.
Every flower got a right to bloomin'

So there's a bonus point for you. ;)
