    Well, to clarify, the Frisii are just another German tribe. They setlled on much of the Dutch, German and Danish shores of the North Sea. In the early middle ages, the Friesian territories ranched even from Belgium to Denmark.

    Some Frisians moved to England and actually influenced the English language. There are linguistic laws applicable only to English and Friesian(like the Anglo-Friesian nasal spirant law,) and the words for, for example, cheese(tsiis) and church(tjerke) are very similar.

    Not quite what you asked for, not. To add to the confusion we were a republic first, and a kingdom later. (So there is still hope for the USA)

    1384-1482 The bourgondic Netherlands
    1477-1556 The seven Provinces(states)
    1482-1795 Spanish Netherlands
    1581-1795 Republic of the 7 united provinces
    1795-1806 Batavian republic
    1806-1810 Kingdom Holland
    1810-1813 French Empire
    1813-1815 William 1 soevereign Lord(King)
    1815- Kingdom of the netherlands.
    1839- Belgium is recognized as a Sate. It was a part of Holland aka The netherlands

    Nothing to complicated but a heck of a larger birhtpain than the americans had, or the United States of some parts of North America.

    To our english friends. It is always easier to choose sides when you have a sea whit ships (yours) in it between you and your friendly negotiating partner that points out a few things whit a big army behind him/her.

    And yes I had to wiki for it since most of us have no idea of the above mentioned, or care about it.
