Speaking of interfaces...how many old classic can boast a cunningly designed UI. Only a few.

And way back, the 'horrible, clunky and over dramatized UI' was part of the fun. :D

I've been on a gaming marathon since the beginning of January, doing about 9-10 hours a day on average, trying to make a dent into my Steam library. I've barely scratched the surface.

I started playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow today.

    Played a few recently:

Incredipede - Interesting as far as the different designs for the creature you can create, but as far as gameplay, it was mainly frustrating.

Rochard - Pretty fun action-platformer where your weapon is a multi-purpose gravity-gun that also shoots laser pulses. I wish they had made the control of gravity (not the gravity gun) a toggle rather than having to hold a key down. I spent most of the time in low gravity when I could, so had to keep my pinky pressed on the Shift key for nearly the entire time :)

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - Really fun adventure game in a not-very-challenging kind of way. Solutions to obstacles are pretty logical and pretty fun to overcome. Enjoyed controlling both brothers at the same time with the gamepad.

Made for gamepad control and that was my main problem: It recognized I had a gamepad, but would only give me settings control over the keyboard. Unfortunately, for some reason the up/down on the left thumbstick was reversed from the one on the right so moving the young brother forward and back was the opposite stick movement to moving the older brother forward and back. Made the control of the two of them at the same time more challenging than it needed to be.

I don't understand why they made the end so tragic though... There was really no reason to, and it made the quest result come at too high a price. Still, a very fun game that I'd recommend.

I just finished Batman Arkham City Origins a couple of weeks ago, and I'm currently playing Legend of Grimrock whenever I can (busy with college and work ya know?)

NWN2 - Original Campaign. Air Genasi Cleric Stormlord. A second run (at least through the first act) with a Swashbuckler Duelist.

I also have Witcher (first one) and Fallout 3 ... "so much time and so little to do."

Tactics Ogre for PSP. Old and simple, but with lots more content than you'd expect from a handheld game.

Oh man, I miss Tactics Ogre games. I played those way too much back in the day.

Then try the PSP version. Major improvements, much more replay value, and with different leveling angles. I wrote 3 guides on the game, too

Still have a savegame for the NWN2 OC waiting for me to return to the game. And I haven't even begun the expansions either, which are supposed to be a bit better.

Once I'm done with my gaming marathon on the PC, I might consider looking at console games again. There are quite a few PS2, PSP, and DS games I still want to play.

    ---------- Added 6 hours, 24 minutes and 58 seconds later... ----------

Huh, I've been playing Castlevania: LoS for 9 hours now (between prolonged GW2 sessions), and I've only managed to finish chapter II out of XIV. This game is way longer than most of its counterparts, and playing it on hard takes a lot of patience (it's clunky as hell).

Finished F.E.A.R. 2. As a horror-based game, it was pretty tame – the actual scary parts were few and far between (and not all that scary). So basically it was more like a straight-up shooter, and it was kind of meh. Not that it was bad – the mechanics were good, but it didn’t break any new ground. Overall, it was OK (got my 4 bucks worth), but nothing memorable.

I’m now playing Braid. I’m not sure about this one – I generally avoid puzzle games, but this one sounded interesting; I thought its time-rewinding mechanics might make it like Portal in the sense that you’d be able to look at the environment and figure out what to do without a lot of trial-and-error (which I hate). But I think Braid is going to involve trial-and-error (at least it has so far), so the jury’s still out.

Yeah, Braid is a puzzler that maybe you won't like. Everything is logical, but figuring out what to do is not always simple. In later levels, the time rewind gets more complicated with what it affects and doesn't affect.

    But I liked it :)

The first FEAR game could be pretty tense at times, but was more of a thriller than a horror game. It was pretty good at keeping you on your toes, either through these semi-horror scenes, or through the combat where you could never be sure that one of the guys wasn't circling around to flank you. The AI was/is pretty good.

By all accounts FEAR 2 is just a main stream, watered down, generic shooter.

That pretty much sums it up. Not terrible, but not particularly outstanding either.

I didn't have much time to play this weekend, so I didn't get much further. My problem with puzzlers is that I don't have a lot of patience. I don't mind making a few attempts (particularly when the solutions are logical), but I think the Braid puzzles might involve more than a "few" tries. I haven't given up, though, so I'll have to see how it goes.

On something of a Star Wars kick atm (for some reason); so am dividing time between the excellent Star Wars: Conquest mod for Mount & Blade, Jedi Academy and KotOR. If only I could find my TIE Fighter CD... :tie:

I think I've hit the wall with Braid. I'm in world 4 (the one where things only move when you do). The first 2 parts were bad enough, but now I'm in a section where you have to eliminate enemies in order, and while moving in a certain direction. The only way I know that that's what you have to do is I had to refer to a walkthrough. This is exactly what I don't like about puzzle games - the necessity for repeated trial and error in order to figure out a solution (the lever in the previous area was similarly frustrating). And from the walkthrough, it doesn't look like world 4 gets any better (it apparently gets much worse, in fact), so I think I'm done with this game. Oh well, at least it was only $2.

Not sure what I'll try next. I had a second run-through of Bioshock 2 going - maybe I'll continue with that. Or maybe I'll download one of the dozen or so untouched games in my Steam library.

I decided to play Solar 2. The game is pretty mesmerizing – I thought yesterday I had played for ~30 minutes, but when I looked at the clock, it was closer to 90. Fun, but in a relaxed way. I’m really just focusing on absorbing stuff, and not trying the missions (mainly because, for the few missions I did try, I quickly got slaughtered). Now that I have a better idea about levels, shields, turrets, etc., I’ll probably have more success. But that will wait until after I create my black hole . And when that will happen depends on how much time I have (which these days isn’t much).

[IMG] Speaking of untouched Steam library, I played some Section 8: Prejudice at the weekend, and turns out it's not a bad little shooter. It does raid every Power Armoured Space Marine (tm) cliche going, but it at least has the decency to give you a jet-pack while it's about it; I'd guess you'd have to call it Titanfall-lite (at least judging by what I've seen of Titanfall). A shame that Section 8 is still tied to GFWL -- come July it'll vanish like tears in the rain unless somebody migrates it to Steamworks, which seems unlikely.

In other news, I've also been mucking about with KotOR tool, trying to fix the crazy class "balancing" BioWare implemented. So far, it's pretty much the easiest to use modding tool I've seen -- why didn't I give this a go sooner? :grr:
