Just started reading book 3 of the series. So far I am really enjoying them. My only complaint is I think they did a poor job with the ebook.

These last few months I've had less and less time to devote to books. I've been having trouble finishing e-books/audiobooks without constantly re-reading/listening chapters over and over (until I lose interest) and even my bathroom reader is getting neglected these days.

So in lieu of reading novels, I'd decided to content myself reading online short stories until things improve. For those interested, you can find a lot of good ones here: (reddit thread link) https://www.reddit.com/r/Thetruthishere/comments/1ufm7a/compendium_of_creepy_reddit_threads/.
I like the creepy ones, they help me fall asleep faster.

I know what you mean, i haven't really been reading much as of late as well.
I still have to read Terry Pratchett's "The Shepherd's Crown" - but I've been putting it off since it's the last of his books that I've never read before, and ever will.
That said, i keep myself occupied with reading D&D greentexts and gametales on their respective reddits. (r/DnDGreentext/ and r/gametales/)

Why do you re-read / re-listen whole chapters instead of going to the next chapter?
    What is urban fantasy?

Fantasy with elves, werewolves, vampires, mages and the like in a now-a-days setting.

Don't think I ever saw something like that, but at least there's a difference from the always strangely comfortable medieval setting.

I highly recommend the Dresden files.

I'll have to take a look at the dresden files, then.

Also, bunny hopping? If there's rocket jumping as well, it should definitely be entertaining.

If a guy does it, it's a disgusting male fantasy and needs to be burned. If a woman does it, it's a best seller. :shake:

But yeah, female writers tend to include more sex scenes, especially risque and downright unrealistic ones.

On an unrelated note, I've been reading Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser anthologies. Pretty good stuff, although it's a bit hard to get used to Leiber's writing style.

Interestingly enough I have never been able to get my son into classic fantasy. He only like fantasy and science fiction set in modern or near modern day.

It's a tough battle sometimes. My son likes the sci fi and I am gradually getting him into fantasy. Glen Cook is the gateway drug, both the Black Company books and the Garrett Files.

I the opposite. I can deal with modern-day contemporary fantasy in film/tv because I know it's less work, but it just seems lazy in written works, especially when you have have all these fantasy tropes in a modern setting, but everyday life is still completely the same because reasons. Moving the setting into the past or future generally forces the author(s) to consider the implications a bit more thoroughly, making it easier for me to suspend my disbelief.

I seem to find mostly (medieval) fantasy books, though if I read it too much I tend to get a bit put off of it. I wish I knew more good sci-fi writers like Neal Asher or L.E. Modesitt, if he decides to write sci-fi, that is.

Things at work have just been pretty hectic lately, combined with RL family shenanigans. I'm getting calls at all times of the day/night, for example. I guess it doesn't help that I'm one of those people who like to lose themselves on the book they're reading.

    Undead Sue FTW!

Haveyou tried listening to the audiobooks? James Marsters is an amazing narrator. This section is also a great example of Urban Fantasy:

Poor Spike. Neutered to the point where he's reading bed time stories to people.

I've finally got around to reading Game of Thrones for the first time ever! I know that invites a "Where have you been?" response. Fact is ... I've been well aware of it for a long time, and was meaning to get around to it. But I've had to juggle so much on a stacked plate for years now, and I finally mustered the will to start.

I'm one of those miserable sods that actually can't stand GRRM's writing and have to watch the TV show to make the story digestible (although the storylines do diverge quite a bit). A friend of mine lent me the first SoI&F book many years ago and when he asked me if I wanted to read the second, I told him to kindly piss off.

I might get to it eventually though. Assuming that fat wanker doesn't keel over before he finishes the series.
