During the last two weeks I've updated all pages of the Fantasy Books section, added a couple more sample chapters and set up links to Amazon.de on all titles. Please note that all Amazon.de links are to titles in English.
A new link has been added to the Related Links subsection. Look up dudleyville.com on the Fansites list.
Last week I removed the ever-growing role-play posts from the Neverwinter Nights forum and moved them to a brand new forum called Role-play Corner. The main forum listing has been updated accordingly, as well as this forums index available on SP.
There was an error in the Cleric, Mage & Mage/Thief character AI scripts submitted to me a while ago. The creator of the scripts has sent me the fixed version which you can download from the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.
Thanks to Extremist, our regular contributor, we now have online a full list of mage all spells in the game, complete with information where you can either find or buy them. Browse through the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection to find it.
In the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection you can find a link to the latest Throne of Bhaal walkthrough that has popped up on the net. In the same subsection you can check out the renewed Baldur's Gate 2 NPCs Guide. I have cut out a big chunk of irrelevant info so it's a lot easier to navigate through now.
There are two new additions in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. Extremist has put together a patch which makes all Totemic Druids' spirit animals' attacks magical, as we suspect they should be. You can download it at the bottom of his Totemic Druid's Spirit Animals list.
Also look for a new list of Throne of Bhaal items in the same subsection.
There is only one, but important new item in the Miscellanea subsection. Here you can now download the official international Throne of Bhaal patch. If you don't have it yet, make sure to download & install it at once as it fixes a great deal of more or less annoying bugs in the game.
On the first page of the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection you can download a ToB character + portrait submitted by Firestorm. On the second page of the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection you will find a bunch of new Throne of Bhaal enhancements from BioWare's David Gaider. There is a new patch which makes the starting battle with Illasera much harder, one which makes Gromnir Il-Khan and his goons more powerful and another which makes the Abazigal battle MUCH more challenging and fun.
Of the existing patches the Yaga Shura and Balthazar ones were fixed/updated so make sure you download them again to get the latest version.
Another submission on the same page is the AI uScript which is a very interesting chunk of scripting indeed. It works for BG2 & ToB for any type of character and has a small sea of cool features.
Although a bit late (better late than never, huh?) I present you with an edited chat log of the Neverwinter Vault chat with Marc Holmes, the NWN Art Director. It's an interesting read so check it out. Thanks go to Blackthorne for logging the chat for me. Oops, almost forgot... You can find it in the Miscellanea subsection. ;)
I've altered the text on the main Fantasy Books page and added a couple details about the ordering process. Aside from that, there's a new sample chapter you can download from the first page of the Forgotten Realms books subsection. It's from Elminster in Hell, the newly released novel from Ed Greenwood describing the adventures of Faerun's most powerful and well known mage.
I've fixed some broken links to the games listed on the main Games page, and added the titles that are available for other platforms than PC. All related Macintosh and PlayStation 2 games can now be purchased from that section as well. Amazon dropped prices on some of the older titles again, so if any of them are missing from your collection, this is the perfect time to go on a shopping spree.
Let's start at the beginning, in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection. Here I've posted the final version of my Throne of Bhaal features list, which is now correct on all counts since it has been updated with a ton of information straight from the manual.
In the same subsection there's an online version of Interplay's Throne of Bhaal walkthrough available. It's pretty good, though lacking the entire Watcher's Keep part of the expansion.
Another new walkthrough for Throne of Bhaal comes from GameSpot, but this one is complete in all regards. There are two versions of it available, an online one and a downloadable pdf document.
The new addition to the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection comes from Extremist, our local hex wizard. This time he extracted the information about Totemic Druid's spirit animals and made it into a handy little guide for all of you who were wondering which & how powerful animals this type of druid can summon.
Another new addition appears on the first page of the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection. A fan has sent in a very convincing Darth Vader sound set I'm sure many of you will enjoy. On the second page of the same subsection however, there a new, full version of the Throne of Bhaal Concurrent Romances hack, something I know many of you have been waiting for impatiently.
The most powerful of Bhaalspawn might also find of interest the Improved Tougher Yaga Shura, a new unofficial patch which makes this Throne of Bhaal battle much more challenging, but also resource-demanding, so make sure your computer can handle it before installing!
Finally, BioWare has released the official Throne of Bhaal English patch (the international one listed is still beta), so all of you who own a copy of the game that is in English can now get a magic wand to fix a small legion of more or less serious problems encountered without it. As always, get it from the Miscellanea subsection.
Only one new addition here; namely a guide dealing with how the 3rd edition D&D rules will be implemented in the game. You can read all about it in the Miscellanea subsection.
Again in the Miscellanea subsection, check out my updated list of monsters and a list of skills from the GenCon demo, posted by Wasek.
A new link has been added to the Related Links subsection. Check out Kitiara's Palace of Portraits for portraits for Baldur's Gate series of games.
If you've visited the Fantasy Books section lately you might have noticed that now another Amazon logo is displayed on the pages there... A few days ago Sorcerer's Place teamed up with Amazon.de, which is a great addition to our online stores because Amazon.de will now enable most of our visitors from the continental Europe to buy from there & support us in that way.
In the upcoming weeks I will add links to all the books in our Fantasy Books section for Amazon.de. (If they have them available, of course.)
The first subsection where I have added Amazon.de links is the Robert Jordan one.
Other subsections where I've made updates are the Planescape one and the 3rd Editions D&D Books one, where I have also added quite a number of new items. (Hopefully I'll have the links to buy at Amazon.de from there available tomorrow.)
As with the Fantasy Books subsection, the main Games page was also updated. I have fixed a couple of links, removed one item no longer sold at Amazon and added one new one. All items can now be bought from Amazon.de as well.
To expand further, all main games subsections (BG1, BG2, IWD, PS:T, PoR and NWN) now have official guides available from Amazon.de.
In the Miscellanea subsection, I have changed the server where Trials of the Luremaster can be downloaded with one that allows resuming. (Good new for everyone on dial-up.)
I have also added links to download the Spanish and French versions of the expansion's expansion.
Here, one updated walkthrough has been added to the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection, and a Sarevok sound set to Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters (Page 1).
This subsection received a substantial face-lift. Html on all pages has been cleaned up and a number of pages updated with new info. Most notably the main entry page with the features and minimum system requirements (which have risen notably), the Frequently Asked Questions subsection, where a great deal of new information is presented, and the Miscellanea subsection.
There I have added a list of classes, an interview with Carrie Bebris, the author of the PoR novel, an interview with Mark Buchignani, the lead designer at Stormfront and the latest trailer showing off spell effects from the game.
An edited log of our 3rd Edition D&D chat is now available in the Miscellanea subsection. Check it out!
The full renovation of the Fantasy Books section is at an end. The last subsection that was rehauled is the Forgotten Realms one. It now lists 91 books and offers something for everyone's tastes.
As usual, there is a new version of the Complete BG2 & ToB walkthrough in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
Ragusa's guide (Why Thieves Rule) in the same subsection has been tweaked a little bit to fix a small error.
In the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection, the Spells FAQ/Listing has been updated so that it now included all spells, even those from Throne of Bhaal.
A level 50 patch & experience cap remover was removed (heh) from the second page of Editors, Hacks & Custom characters subsection. It was replaced with a newer and (hopefully) bug-free version from TeamBG. Which obviously means that you should get it from the TeamBG subsection.
A new version of the Complete Guide and Walkthrough to Planescape: Torment can be found in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
I have added an edited chat log of the NWN Stratics chat held about two weeks ago. Better late than never...
Also, a new version of the NWMap mapping and module design utility has been added. Get both new additions from the Miscellanea subsection.
A bunch of small fixes and link changes have been made throughout the entire Fantasy Books section, but most importantly, the renewed Dragonlance subsection is now up & running.
It lists more than 100 Dragonlance books (all that aren't out of print) and I feel is a good reference as to what to read first. Remember, by buying any items from Amazon through Sorcerer's Place you help to keep us up & running since we have no other means of income. My gratitude goes to everyone that has ever purchased anything from SP and to all our future customers!
A small update was made in the TeamBG Tools subsection. The new addition is a hack that installs rules for all the way up to level 50, so you can play the game right for the next 100 years or so. ;)
Starting with the usual, there is the latest version of the BG2 & ToB walkthrough available in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
In the TeamBG Tools subsection are two new additions. One is a patch which replaces all containers in the game with bottomless ones and the second one fixes fighter grandmastery to what it should be according to the rules.
A number of files have been added to the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsections as well.
On the first page there is a nice portrait of Drizzt, sent in by Silverblade.
On the second page I added a link to download MageDuel, a multiplayer add-on to Baldur's Gate 2. Two interesting patches you can find on the same page allow you to keep all BG1 items when you import a character into BG2, and the other one allows any race to have a romance in the game.
While on the subject of most-wanted hacks; I added one that allows your protagonist in ToB to have concurrent romances. (Same concept as the previous BG2-only patch.)
Finally, there are three unofficial patches released by Bioware's David Gaider which make certain ToB battles more difficult, while one grants you Bhaalpowers as was originally planned.
I have added an updated version of one of walkthroughs for Heart of Winter, which now also covers Trials of the Luremaster. Get it from the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
The TeamBG subsection has one new addition, a level 40 rules pack. Don't bother with this if you have Heart of Winter insalled.
The Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection has also been updated. There you can find an updated version of the Icewind Dale store items list, plus an updated version of the Heart of Winter store items list which now additionally lists merchants from Trials of the Luremaster.
There have been a couple of changes in the past few days, among other things the opening of a new chatroom. At present called The Nameless Room since we haven't decided on a name yet, it can be found listed on the main Chatrooms page along with the updated info.
Since there'll be rolling going on, I have installed a dice script on Elminster (channel bot) and updated the Elminster Scripts with new commands.
There was just one change here, and that is the updated version of the Complete Guide to Baldur's Gate & Tales of the Sword Coast. You can find it in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
In the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection, two files have been updated to the most recent versions. The first is the complete walkthrough for Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal, and the second the Class FAQ, which now also includes the Wild Mage from ToB.
An interesting new addition has been made to the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. It is a list of all Throne of Bhaal "epilogue" texts that tell what happens to your companions after Throne of Bhaal ends. Consider this a gigantic spoiler.
Slappy, one of our message board regulars, has provided me with a detailed guide on how to effectively make Boo a part of your group, i.e. an NPC. If you want to try it, you can find the instructions on how to do it on the second page of Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.
Trials of the Luremaster, the free official downloadable expansion to Heart of Winter, has only been released a couple days ago and already there is a solution available for it. Check out the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection, where you will also find an updated version of a Heart of Winter walkthrough.
Three updates have also been made to the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.
I have updated my Trials of the Luremaster info page with more current data and download information. Heart of Winter store items list and Icewind Dale store items list were updated to the most recent version.
In the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection three AI scripts were added, thanks for which go to Tsumari Shiranai.
Finally, the link to Trials of Luremaster download has been added to the Miscellanea subsection. Unfortunately the file is still available only at FilePlanet, which forces you to go through a registration process before you can start downloading.
Whew!
The first part of the renovation of our fantasy books library is at an end. In this update, I have added a bunch of new books (and updated the links to some) to the Miscellaneous Books subsection, and to the Terry Pratchett books subsection. But more importantly, there are now also a bunch of sample chapters available for the books from these subsections. (Especially for the Discworld series and the Drenai saga.)
Since these are the most overlooked books on the site, I hope this will help to instill some interest. Give Pratchett a try, even if you're American. ;)
People have sent me a couple more quotes from the game, so I added them to our Planescape: Torment quotes page. I wouldn't mind getting some for Ignus as well. No one seems to like him.
The Throne of Bhaal walkthrough I posted a few days ago has been completed. You can get the latest version from the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
In the Miscellanea subsection, you can read an edited chat log from the post-release Throne of Bhaal chat conducted two days ago. It's a nice quick read.
James Bradbrook sent me a powerful "Godlike" cheat script with a bunch of features only a keystroke away. Read about it and download it in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection, page 2.
The Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection has also been updated. There is a new version of the guide to using sorcerers (now includes additions from ToB) and a full item list covering both BG2 and ToB.
The Miscellaneous Books subsection sports a couple of new books, as well as the J.R.R. Tolkien subsection. I have also added two sample chapters of books about Tolkien; check the Tolkien books subsection for excerpts.
Probably the most eagerly anticipated addition is finally here. Simpson's complete Baldur's Gate II FAQ/Walkthrough has been updated with a Throne of Bhaal walkthrough!
So far it covers Watcher's Keep, Grove of the Ancients and Saradush. Head over to the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection to download it.
I've updated the About Us index page with the more current status of our team. Nothing breathtaking, but necessary.
In the Related Links subsection, one dead link was removed, and four new ones added.
I'm doing a major overhaul of this whole section. It's a huge project, since I intend to have all books sorted and organized better, not to mention add all the ones I'm missing and the ones the fans suggested.
To date the Planescape, 3rd Edition D&D Books, Robert Jordan, J.R.R. Tolkien and Miscellaneous Books subsections have been totally renewed, all links checked, and many, many books added. Especially check out the Tolkien and 3rd Edition subsections, where most of the new books were added.
I have added the latest version of the AD&D Rules FAQ and a guide to why thieves rule, by Ragusa. Both can be found at the bottom of the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
In the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection, an excellent NPC proficiencies list (compiled by Extremist) has been added. On a side note, I've put the familiars sheet on a separate page, accessible from the same section.
I finally got around to doing some more work in this section. To begin with, I compiled lists of known monsters and spells that will be in the game. Check them out in the Miscellanea subsection and let me know if I'm missing any. (Only confirmed stuff, no guesses please. I can make those myself.)
Since we started the whole SotW subsection on the front page, quite a number of screenshots have been shown, but once their week of fame was over, there was no way to see them again. A shame really, so I sat down and created a new subsection accessible from the SotW page. (SotW Archives). All previous screenshots will be archived and displayed there from now on.
My buddy Chris of the GA-RPG fame allowed me to post some of his articles he and I managed to salvage from the sinking ship that was GA and later eUniverse. I revised and posted three of his game reviews which can now be accessed in the Articles subsection.
The reviews are of Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate II. Well written stuff.
Even though I liked the old cover for the FR campaign setting better, I finally stopped fooling people and put up the right picture of it. While at it, I added another upcoming manual from SSS, the Creature Collection II. Yes, it happened in the Recommended 3rd Edition D&D Books subsection.
Rhys Hess, whom some of you might remember as the guy who created the story of the Nameless One and the BG2 stories, has done it again. This time he went through the entire Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast and recorded his journey in written word. Check the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection where you can download it.
Wildfire, one of our message boards/chatroom regulars reminded me that I don't have the demo of the game linked to anywhere, so I promptly fixed this. See the Miscellanea subsection for more, if you are interested.
There's also a new addition in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. A new Romances FAQ has been posted, though it deals with female romances only. (Sorry ladies, maybe you can mail the author and convince him to do Anomen too ;)
Not much to write about here, except for a new version of the IWD+HoW walkthrough, accessible from the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
More of the above... A new version of the Complete Guide and Walkthrough to Planescape: Torment in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
I finally got around to editing the log of the NWN chat from a while ago. If you haven't attended, make use of the prettied up version of it, which you can read in the Miscellanea subsection.
In the same subsection, I have also posted an overview of the game, according to the E3 material. It's a good summary of what NWN is all about.
For starters, we have two updated walkthroughs to offer. The first being the IWD + HoW one, and the second a pure Heart of Winter solution. You can find both in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
Next update was made in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. Both the Heart of Winter and Icewind Dale stores items lists were renewed.
There are quite a few new additions on this part of the site. On the main Walkthroughs & Guides page I added a link to the official Throne of Bhaal strategy guide, which is now also available from Amazon.com.
On the same page, the Complete BG2 FAQ and Walkthrough has been updated with the latest version, as well as the AD&D Rules FAQ.
Next is the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. Here a new version of the guide to sorcerers has been added, plus an updated items list.
The Complete Guide & Walkthrough to Planescape: Torment has been updated. Obviously you can find this in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
Extremist, one of the regulars of our message boards has extracted a list of all tattoos that are in the game, and I took the liberty of compiling it all into a nice handy reference. You can find it in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.
The Tome and Blood guidebook to wizards and sorcerers, due to be released soon has been added to the Recommended 3rd Edition D&D Books subsection. I've also added the d20 dice set to the same page.
In the light of the recent opening of a new forum (Throne of Bhaal) at our message boards, I have updated the Message Boards subsection with the new forum and made some cosmetic changes to the whole page.
With the release of the free downloadable Heart of Winter expansion only a few days away (hopefully), I've updated my Heart of Winter: Trials of the Luremaster Features List with a few more details and screenshots. Check the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.
Sylvus has been busy finishing his excellent Baldur's Gate 2 Online Solution, so this time we have five new areas available: Small Teeth Pass, North Forest, Forest of Tethir, Suldanessellar and Bhaal's Realm.
Throne of Bhaal is also nearing the "gold" status, so I've updated my Throne of Bhaal Features List with a couple new details. You can access both the solution and the list from the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.
In case you haven't grabbed the ToB Demogorgon wallpaper yet, I've put it in the Miscellanea subsection.
Not much news here, except for an interesting look at the mapping system in the game. Check the Miscellanea subsection.
A few more details about the game are known at this point, so I have updated and split the Neverwinter Nights introduction page into three parts.
I've noticed that I didn't have the two subsequent books to the Avatar trilogy listed, so I added both of them (Prince of Lies and Crucible) to the Recommended Forgotten Realms Books subsection.
One new Neverwinter Nights link has been added to the Related Links subsection.
Amazon.co.uk has a DVD version of Planescape: Torment coming up, so if any of you Brits haven't bought the game yet, this is the perfect time. A great game, cool price, and everything on one plate... what more could you wish for?
You can buy the game at the usual spot in the Games subsection.
The Complete Guide & Walkthrough to Planescape: Torment in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection has been updated with a newer version. It's not finished yet, but is getting close. I have also added another new walkthrough to the list on the same page.
All the other updates & additions were made in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.
The PS: T quotes page has been updated with one or two new ones, and a couple more interesting hints & tips were added to the Hints for playing Torment page. The list of items on the same page has been updated with a more recent version.
The all-new "NPC Conversation Bonuses" is a list of tips about all the bonuses you can get out of the NPCs that can join you in the game. It is a very comprehensive and detailed guide, and should come in handy to anyone playing the game. A big thanks goes to FenixStrife for sending it in.
in the Recommended 3rd Edition D&D Books subsection you'll find two new d20 manuals by Sword & Sorcery Studios (Creature Collection and Relics & Rituals). Both are 100% compatible with 3rd edition and well worth checking out.
Another thing I spotted at Amazon was the Dragon Magazine Archive - a very nice collection of the first 250 issues of the mag. At the price of 16 cents per issue, it's a bargain. This has also been added to the above mentioned page.
I have replaced the older guestbook records with the ones posted more recently. You can find these newer entries in the same place as before (Guestbook Archives), while the page that previously displayed there can be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of Guestbook Archives.
The (probably) final version of Slappy's screenshot taking guide has been posted in the regular spot below the Screenshot of the Week. Quite a number of things have been changed and simplified, so if you read a previous version of it, please re-read it now. And send me some screenshots! (Currently IWD/HoW ones are in demand.)
The information released by Black Isle Studios regarding the free downloadable Heart of Winter expansion (due soon) has been compiled and is accessible from the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.
A few days ago a bunch of official HoW patches for languages other than English have been released, so I have added them all to the Miscellanea subsection. Some of the previously posted patch links have been changed as well.
Let us start at the beginning, shall we?
My Throne of Bhaal Features List, probably the biggest and most detailed listing of all Throne of Bhaal will have to offer, has been updated extensively. Too much new info has been added to explain it all here, just surf along to the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection where it can be found.
The Baldur's Gate II Class FAQ which can be found in the same subsection has also been updated with a new version.
There are 3 new additions in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. The first is the Spells FAQ/Listing, the second a guide to sorcerers and the third a list of creature codes. All three are downloadable.
In the Miscellanea subsection, a very cool trailer showing off Throne of Bhaal has been added. It comes in two sizes, but don't feel bad if you download the smaller one. The big one's content is identical, only the picture is a bit bigger.
As I've suspected for some time, the Editors, Hacks & Cap Removers subsection needed to be split in two parts due to huge amount of content. On the first page you can now find Custom Characters, Portraits, Voice packs and similar, while the second page is dedicated to Editors, Hacks, XP Cap Removers and similar tools.
Links from the first page to the second (and vice versa) have been placed at the bottom of both pages.
But wait, there's more! (No Ginsu knives though, sorry.)
Tyresian sent me a bunch of BG2 voice packs made from StarCraft character voices. They are of excellent quality and definitely worth the download. Currently Templar, Tassadar and Zeratul packs can be downloaded.
If you paid attention to the text above, you would know that you can find them on page 1 of Editors, Hacks & Cap Removers subsection.
I have to apologize for the lack of (visible and documented) news content coming from me lately, but these last three weeks have been really demanding on me so I haven't had the time yet to put together a list of all updates I have had sitting here on my hard drive for some time. And as I started to look at the amount of new content that piled up, I've decided that there is way too much there to post in one update, so I'll split it in parts and post updates here more often for a while.
As most of our regular members have noticed, there have been quite a number of changes to our message board rules. Newly registered members have been warned of these in the updated registration page, and there have also been numerous posts about it appearing all over the boards.
But in case you still managed to miss it somehow, you can read all about it by clicking on the "faq" link which appears on top of most forum pages. As has been discussed in the related topic in the Whatnots forum, these changes are nothing really new, the sort of behaviour they forbid has always been frowned upon. The only difference is that now it is all sorted, documented and displayed. Which means, as you might have guessed, that excuses such as "I didn't know that I can't do that or that" or "I'm new here, give me a break" will not be tolerated any more.
We take great pride in our forums and strict moderation that keeps them clean, enjoyable and most importantly, informative. With the amount of new members who aren't used to participating in forums in an orderly way (or come from messed up forums where everything was allowed and moderation an unknown word), making this list of rules has unfortunately become necessary. Still, I feel our community will only benefit from this. Actually, it wouldn't hurt any of our members to read it in detail. ;)
I have added a few more words to the short guide on how to join us in chat, and changed some of the wording so that the whole page is more coherent now. Not to mention bloody obvious enough even for an ettin to understand. :p
Our Baldur's Gate 2 Online Solution has been updated yet again. In this addition, the walkthrough for Sahuagin City has been added. I have also updated the Foul Beasts part of the solution with a few more tips for easier disposal of tougher monsters.
Well, this is it for today. More coming up soon.
