Subsection Updates -> Articles & Editorials

I have added the text that was supposed to be posted at a certain The Lord of the Rings edition at Amazon.com, but was rejected by the censors there, to the Articles & Editorials subsection. Just in case anyone has missed it during the time it was posted on the front page. (And thanks to all of you who mailed me and expressed your approval of what I wrote!)

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate

I have fixed the links to the official patches in the Miscellanea subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Planescape: Torment

Another NPC quote has been sent in, and was added to the PS: T Quotes page.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

As with the BG1 subsection, I fixed the patch links in the Miscellanea subsection of BG2 as well. I also added the beta patch for ToB that fixes the long save/load times. I usually don't add betas to any pages on SP, but this one has held this status for many weeks now and it doesn't look as if BioWare is in a hurry to get it out of this state, so I added it anyway.

In the Maps subsection, I added a complete map of all areas you can travel to in Throne of Bhaal.

There is a new addition in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection as well. Rhythm put together a list of Throne of Bhaal: The Ascension epilogue texts, some of which are a bit longer than the shortened versions you get in the original Baldur's Gate 2. In case you are wondering, ToB: The Ascension is a free mod by David Gaider of BioWare, and can be found on Page 2 of our Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

Two new additions were also made on Page 1 of Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection. One of the members of our boards has sent in a fixed version of the Juggernaut golem, and another fan has submitted a collection of powerful new custom items.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

The recent 1.3 patch has been added to the Miscellanea subsection.

Team Chlorine came up with another mod for the game. This one allows you to play a wizard - well, almost. They also updated the speed control utility to work with the new patch. You can get both from the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

There is a review The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings in the Fantasy Movies subsection. It has been posted about on the front page before, so check it out only if you missed it back then.

December 16, 2001 - Site News

It's been a while since the last update, and I've had a number of things ready for publication for some time now... However, due to the problems caused by the server move and change of hosts, I didn't get the chance to make any updates sooner, so this one will be a bit larger content-wise than usual. I'm sure no one will mind. ;)

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate

In the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection, two updates were made. Check out the Baldur's Gate Area Guide and the Tales of the Sword Coast Area Guide, both being the latest versions.

There is also a new addition in the Maps subsection. A fan sent in a nice pdf guide with annotated maps of all areas above ground.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Icewind Dale

Heart of Winter: Trials of the Luremaster, the free official addon to the expansion, has finally been released in German and Italian language as well. Get it from the Miscellanea subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

After a long time, Dan Simpson's BG2 & ToB guide has been updated. Get it from the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.

The Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection has been updated as well. If you could use a printer-friendly list of BG2 items, this is the place to go to.

TeamBG's The Darkest Day has finally received a patch to fix the numerous bugs, so get it from the TeamBG Tools subsection for a more enjoyable experience of this unofficial mod.

A bunch of new additions have been made to the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection (Page 1). I split this page down even further, so that character portraits are now grouped together.

The new additions here are: a ToB savegame and character that was sent in, a pack of The Lord of the Rings portraits, a pack of various portraits, a small collection of Forgotten Realms characters' portraits, another small pack of Playboy portraits (I was in a dilemma whether to post this one or not, but after a discussion in out chatroom I decided to do it anyway), and finally a portrait of Yoshimo as he looked in the beta of BG2 I got to play.

There is only one new addition on Page 2 of the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection, namely ToB: The Ascension, an interesting mod by David Gaider himself.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

A couple of new mods have popped up recently so I added the page with them to the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection. Load it up for more details.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

Two substantial updates were made here. The entire Piers Anthony books subsection is now up. By popular demand, I've also added all of the 3rd Edition D&D modules to the 3rd Edition D&D Books subsection.
As you probably know, buying any of the items through the Amazon links or banners on SP brings in a couple of copper pieces for me (at no additional cost to yourself), so if you appreciate all the unpaid hard work that is being poured into Sorcerer's Place, keep that in mind next time you're buying something online. And, of course, I must thank all of you who have already bought anything through SP. Every bit helps...

Subsection Updates -> Community

I more or less rewrote the entire index of this section and the entire Chatrooms subsection. Also added were 3 new guides/tutorials related to IRC and our chatrooms. The most important new addition is the Chatroom Rules page. I ask all ops to read this over and punish accordingly anyone who fails to obey them.

The second important page is IRC Services & Chat Commands where I gathered all of the commands related to the operation of the IRC servers our chatrooms are on, so finding out how to do something should be much easier now. (Of course this reference is huge so it may take you a while to read it through.)

The third useful page is the Friendly Arm Inn (#sorcerers) FAQ page where I gathered some of the most commonly asked questions and answers. Pointing newbies to this is a good idea. (Heard that, operators?)

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

There are some new things to check out in the Fantasy Movies subsection. Take a look at the News & Rumours page for the Lord of The Rings movie. It has been updated with some interesting new scoops and a link to the free Enya stream.

A new collection of portraits submitted by Big B has been added to the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection. Check them out.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

One new book (The Redemption of Althalus) has been added to the David Eddings subsection. Two new books (Quidditch Through the Ages & Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) have also been added to the Miscellaneous books subsection.

A sample chapter of the newly released first part of the Kingpriest Trilogy (Chosen of the Gods) has been added to the Page 1 of the Dragonlance books subsection.

This week I managed to finish yet another new book subsection, this time the Terry Goodkind one. You can find all of his popular Sword of Truth books there.

Subsection Updates -> Community

After some more internal restructuring, I have updated the About Us page again. Erran has appended his bio to reflect his new position as an ALFA server DM and Azirath has submitted his own bio to be posted. If you're curious about the people who make the big cogwheels inside Sorcerer's Place turn smoothly, be sure to give this subsection a read.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

An updated version of the Weapons & Armour guide has been added to the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.
The link to Freedom's Reign has been fixed in the TeamBG Tools subsection.

5 new portraits that were submitted to us can be found in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection, along with three excellent new sound sets made from Diablo 1 voices.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

A new book subsection has been added, or rather an existing one filled if you prefer. Books from the popular fantasy writer David Eddings can now be found in the appropriate subsection.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

There are some new things to check out in the Fantasy Movies subsection. Take a look at the News & Rumours page for the Lord of The Rings movie. It has been updated with some interesting new scoops.

While you're at it, you can also read the latest review of Conan the Barbarian and the base info that accompanies it.

Subsection Updates -> Community

Since there have been some changes in the structure of the SP Team as of late I decided it was high time to update the About Us subsection. Two new members (Tiamat and Mollusken) have submitted their bios you can read and Erran was bumped down since he resigned the position of AORTA guildmaster. The third new crewman (Azirath) will be added to the list as soon as I get his bio. ;)

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

Two new additions have been made to the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection. Check out The Big Book of (Almost) Everything, an extensive monster-battling guide and BG1 & BG2 Complete Item Texts, a handy reference of all legally and illegally obtainable items in the games.

In the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection (Page 1) there are three new soundsets made by Grojlach, two from Futurama and one from Family Guy.

If you check out the TeamBG Tools subsection you will notice I added a link to the Freedom's Reign minimod.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

Only one addition here, namely a boxed set of the Lord of The Rings in the J. R. R. Tolkien subsection.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

There are some new things to check out in the Fantasy Movies subsection. Take a look at the News & Rumours page for the Lord of The Rings movie. It has been updated with some interesting new scoops.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

A strategy guide for going through the game solo has been added to the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection. I have also added a cheats page to the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

The concurrent romance scripts (both the version for BG2 and ToB) have received a script upgrade for the Jaheira romance so you should re-download them if you have an older version you are using. Get the final version from the Page 2 of Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Neverwinter Nights

I've updated the list of monsters with some new ones we were able to spot on the wallpapers and screenshots released recently. You can find the list in the Miscellanea subsection.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

As usual, there are a couple of new things to check out in the Fantasy Movies subsection.
Firstly the News & Rumours page for the Lord of the Rings movie has been updated with some new scoops. Next there's a list of all fantasy movies - mail us if you know of one we've missed - for those who want to know what to rent when they're in the mood for some fantasy stuff and finally, a review of Dungeons & Dragons: The Movie, complete with some pictures.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

After going through a rehaul of the whole section last time, I needed to do it again for reasons too bloody stupid to list here. Suffice to say, there have been a couple more changes to note.

While I was at it I've added Terry Pratchett's latest book (The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents) to his respective subsection. There are also four new books in the Miscellaneous Recommended Books subsection. The first three are from George R. R. Martin - the books of his "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga. The last one is called "Hobbits, Elves and Wizards: The Wonders and Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings" and I probably don't need to explain what it's about.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

I have been notified of a nifty program that allows you to change the speed of the game, so I promptly added it to the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

And now for something I've been promising you for a long time...
I finally got around to doing the Pool of Radiance screenshots gallery. It features 196 shots from various areas of the game, presented in (more or less) the order they were released on the Internet. Yup, none of them are mine alone, I've simply collected them all and weeded out the duplicates so that you're presented with the finest of the bunch.

Curiously enough, it came to my attention while I was making this gallery that some of the early screenshots are not screenshots at all - they're fakes, images produced in a graphic program by combining sprites, interface, background and spell effects. You'll find most of this old batch on Page 1 of the gallery.
And if you look closer, you'll even notice that quite a number of early screenshots have completely smooth edges where on later screenshots there are much more jagged edges. Another trick they used to make them look better. Tsk, tsk...

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

By popular demand, I've put back online the Evil Dialogues Override that has been removed when the Happy Group patch was released. If you want it, you can get it from Page 2 of the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

The entire Fantasy Books section has been expanded by another line in the links panel, and I've rearranged the names a bit to fit them all in. Of the new sections only the C.S. Lewis one has been completed, the rest are still under construction. I will try to fill them as soon as possible.

In the previously existing subsections a couple of updates have been made. In the Terry Pratchett books subsection I've added his latest book, The Last Hero. In the Forgotten Realms books subsection (Page 1) I've added a downloadable sample chapter of Salvatore's latest Drizzt novel, Sea of Swords. And in the Miscellaneous books subsection I've added the Harry Potter Boxed Set, and changed some of the links of the Harry Potter books.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

One new story was added to the Fantasy Fiction subsection, and some of the links have been fixed. The tags on stories have also been fixed, since I mixed some up the last time.

And now - fanfare please! The Fantasy Movies subsection lives, thanks to Gash who kindly volounteered to provide me with enough material to make it. He already contributed one review, one guide, two info pages and a news page. He's eager to do more so expect a review of the Dungeons & Dragons movie next week, and more updates & material in the weeks to come.
We will also be adding more images & trailers to sparkle things up. Stay tuned!

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

The FTP that was hosting the PoREdit save game editor is down, so I've put the file online myself. You can get the 1.9 version of this popular editor from the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

The official 1.2 patch that fixes several game issues has been released and can be obtained from the Miscellanea subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate

It was brought to my attention that I didn't have a single walkthrough for Dark Side of the Sword Coast listed, so I added one to the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

The other romances guide that can be downloaded from the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection was updated so that it now includes the Anomen romance. Ladies will be pleased. ;)

There is a new addition in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters - namely a new kit called the Sylvan Mystic.

Subsection Updates -> Community

Listing of the forums available at SP has been updated to include the new forum dubbed Creativity Surge. You are very welcome to post something there yourself.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

A slew of new stories posted on Boards O' Magick was added to the selection in the Fantasy Fiction subsection. All the links have been fixed as well, since the stories were moved to the new dedicated forum.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

The first downloadable walkthrough for Pool of Radiance has surfaced and I grabbed it ASAP. It's still in the starting stages of development, so expect it to be updated regularly. Get it from the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection.

New versions of the two prominent editors for PoR have been released. The one previously named PoolKeeper (now BlackAdder) and PoREdit can be found in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection. I've removed the unofficial install fix from there since this bug was fixed in the official patch.

Which brings us to where you can download it... Where else but in the Miscellanea subsection? You can also check this subsection out if you don't have the game yet but would like to try it out. You can download a 90MB demo of Pool of Radiance there.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

One of the walkthroughs that can be found in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection has been updated. In the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection, the Priest Spells List & Analysis has been updated.

In the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection you can download a submitted pack of (mostly) BG1 NPCs which can be added into your game for a bit of nostalgia or curiosity. There are also three new submitted sound sets to be found in the same section. One is of Terence from South Park, and the other two are of Star Trek's Kirk and Spock. Live long and prosper.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

There is a new book in the Miscellaneous Books subsection (After the King: Stories in Honor of J.R.R. Tolkien) and another manual the 3rd Edition D&D Books subsection (The Wheel of Time Roleplaying Game).

October 5, 2001 - Site News

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

There is a new editor in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection, and an updated version of the one posted in the last update.

In the Wallpapers & Art subsection you can now actually see some wallpapers. ;)

October 3, 2001 - Site News

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

Only a small update in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection has been made. The Mage Spells FAQ/Listing has been updated and clerical spells were removed since someone else made a guide covering them only.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Pool of Radiance: RoMD

Well, now that the game is finally out you can expect to see more and more related material to appear here at SP. I've redesigned the link panel system for this subsection and will be adding stuff to fill the pages regularly.

Notable new additions in today's update are the two new listings in the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection (there are no walkthroughs for the game yet, just in case you're wondering), an installation fix and a save game editor in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection, a new edited dev. team chat log in the Miscellanea subsection and a new support link in the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.

I have a big screenshots gallery in the works, plus a bunch of cool wallpapers. Stay tuned for more updates.

P.S.
If you've made (or are making) something related to PoR (a guide, hack, etc.) and would like to see it posted here, mail me! User submissions are always welcome.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

In the Fantasy Fiction subsection we have one newly submitted story; namely Alkavar's Wish and one new story posted on Boards O' Magick. As always, if you have any fantasy stories you would like to share with the rest of us, please send them over and we will put them online and give you full credit.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate

Though a bit late, I've added the sound sets of all 25 NPC in the game. You can download them all in one big package from the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Planescape: Torment

An interesting modification site has been brought to my attention so I put a link to its download page in the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection. Ever wanted Morte with a body? Go download it. ;)

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

We have a special treat for all of you sad lovers that want to go through with the romances in the game no matter what. Extremist prepared an excellent romancing guide which covers every aspect of the romances in the game in much detail. If you have a question about romances, this guide can surely answer it for you. Get it from the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection.

While you're there, you might also want to check out a character FAQ found lower on the same page, and a weapons and armour guide if you scroll down even further.

In the TeamBG Tools subsection you can find a new version of the level 50 patch & XP cap remover, adjusted to work with ToB as well. After a bit of thinking I decided to move the MageDuel addon here too (since it was made largely with TeamBG's tools), and also list an exciting new, FREE Baldur's Gate 2 expansion called The Darkest Day. Made by a group of enthusiasts and currently due to be released in a fortnight or so, it has a lot of neat features, but will also be pretty big in size (300+ MB). Anyway, go check out the link and read all about it. Check out the screenshots too. (Seems like they mixed stuff from all games made with the Infinity Engine into this expansion, hehe.)

On the second page of Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection I've added a "safe" XP cap remover courtesy of Baldurdash and the newest AI uScript which is growing new features with every release.

Last of the BG2-related additions can be downloaded from the Miscellanea subsection. Look for the Mage Spells Sheet which will allow you to mark which spells a certain member of your party already has so that you will never have to bother with checking when in a store. Simply print the list and check them as you go.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Neverwinter Nights

The official FAQ you can access from any page in this subsection has been updated, and I've appended all the changes to it.

September 18, 2001 - Site News

Subsection Updates -> Games

I have removed the 2nd/3rd Edition Conversion Manual from the main games page since frankly, it had no place there. It has been repacked and moved to the Forgotten Realms (Misc) subsection of the Fantasy Worlds section.

Subsection Updates -> Community

There's a new link in the Related Links subsection. Among the Miscellaneous Sites you'll find Mature Gamer, a site you should definitely check out if you are one.
If you click on the Sorcerer's Place Banners on the same page, you'll be able to see the new banner I made for SP. The image used is from Neverwinter Nights, just in case you're wondering.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Worlds

If you've been around for a while and have browsed all the sections of SP, then you'll know that the Other Worlds subsection never really took off and was more or less defunct. Hoping to remedy that I've removed it altogether and created a new subsection in its place.
The new subsection is called Fantasy Fiction and I'm sure you've already guessed what kind of things you'll be able to find there.

Right now there are two stories in it that have been moved from the old Other Worlds subsection and 17 stories that have been posted on our message boards. There's no fear that people will stop producing good stories on the boards (and we'll add more to the existing list regularly), but I would also like to get some submissions from people who write stories in such a form that can be presented on pages of SP, not just linked to like we do for the board stories.
So, if you have any fantasy stories you would like to share with the rest of us, please send them over and we will put them online and give you full credit.

As for the Forgotten Realms subsection, there has been a slight change there as well. I've moved all the miscellaneous stuff into one table so it's a bit easier to find now. A new addition there is EBoN - Everchanging Book of Names. It's an excellent piece of software which makes creation of fantasy names a breeze. Definitely a must download.

Subsection Updates -> Fantasy Books

A number of new sample chapters from various books can be found on Page 1 & Page 2 of the Forgotten Realms Books subsections and on Page 2 of the Dragonlance Books subsection. In the 3rd Edition D&D books subsection I've replaced some old covers of certain manuals with the actual covers they were/will be released with.

Subsection Updates - Games -> Baldur's Gate 2

If you open the Walkthroughs & Guides subsection you will see that the NPCs guide there has been renamed to include Throne of Bhaal, so yes, I've added the information about Sarevok to the list. You can access the same NPCs guide through our Baldur's Gate II Online Solution.

In the Tips, Tricks & Hints subsection the Troubleshooting FAQ has been updated; it now includes Throne of Bhaal. I've moved it up the list a bit since many people find it very helpful.

On the same page you can find a new guide dubbed Priest Spells List & Analysis which is exactly that. Worth the read.

Moving on to Page 1 of the ever popular Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection... Here you can find an excellent new addition in the form of 6 "templates" which are similar to kits, but not quite. (Load the page for more info.) Very interesting stuff and big thanks to Lavir for sending them in!

Lower on the same page is a zip with the portrait of Sarevok from Throne of Bhaal, which might come in handy to folks without the expansion. But wait, there's more! It seemed like a waste leaving all those small portraits you see in the game unused, so I extracted them from BG2 & ToB and packed them together. You can download the whole collection just beneath the row where Sarevok's portrait is.

On Page 2 of the Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection you can download the latest version of the Bhaalpowers Addition which now includes a description of them all. Thanks for this go to Baldurdash. Also check out the updated Improved Tougher Abazigal.

The last updated file today is uScript, which now has even more features.
