Q: Do you use an optical mouse (no ball) with your gaming computer?
(342 votes total)
Yes (240) 70%
No (59) 17%
Not yet, but I'm thinking of getting one (43) 13%
Interestingly, an overwhelming majority of the gamers who voted (70%), use an optical mouse.
Only 17% still use the classic kind (or some other type), and 13% of poll participants don't use one yet, but are thinking of getting one.
Q: Are you going to download the Community Expansion Pack (CEP) for Neverwinter Nights?
(214 votes total)
Yes, definitely / I already have (131) 61%
Maybe, haven't decided yet (51) 24%
No, never (32) 15%
Nearly two thirds of people who have voted (61%) are going to download the Community Expansion Pack for Neverwinter Nights (or already have).
24% of poll participants were still undecided at the time of voting, but only 15% voted that they will never download the CEP.
Q: How much RAM does your gaming machine have? (Click on My Computer on your desktop, then hold Alt and press Enter to look it up.)

More than 512MB (132) 29%
256MB (75) 16%
128MB (29) 6%
384MB (17) 4%
Between 128MB and 256MB (9) 2%
Less than 128MB (7) 1%
Between 256MB and 384MB (6) 1%
Between 384MB and 512MB (4) 1%
Much to my surprise (obviously, as the poll didn't even go into specifics after 512MB), the wide majority of our visitors who voted in this poll are more than sufficiently equipped with RAM. 39% of them voted that their gaming machines are equipped with 512MB of RAM.
Equally impressive, 29% of people who voted have more than 512MB at their disposal.
16% of poll participants have 256MB, followed by 6% of those with only 128MB.
4% have a decent 384MB, followed by a little less decent "between 128MB and 256MB" of 2%.
Standing with 1% each are the last three values: "less than 128MB", "between 256MB and 384MB" and "between 384MB and 512MB".
Q: Do you own any weaponry frequently encountered in fantasy role-playing games, such as daggers, swords, crossbows etc.?
(302 votes total)
Yes (125) 41%
No (117) 39%
Not yet, but I'm thinking of getting some (60) 20%
Quite a nice number of those who voted (41%) own some kind of weaponry frequently encountered in fantasy role-playing games.
However, almost as many (39%) don't own any at all.
Lastly, 20% of poll participants don't own any yet, but are thinking of getting some.
Q: Would you be interested in playing any non-RPG D&D games on PC, for example first person shooters or real-time strategies set in the Forgotten Realms?
(305 votes total)
Maybe, depends on the reviews (126) 41%
Yes, definitely (90) 30%
No, never (89) 29%
The majority of poll participants (41%) are obviously skeptic about non-RPG D&D games, so their decision whether to play one or not would be based on reviews of such games.
On the other hand, 30% of those who voted expressed definite interest in playing non-RPG D&D games.
Nearly as many (29%), however, voted that they would never play any non-RPG D&D games.
Q: Have you ever read any novels set in the Forgotten Realms?
(281 votes total)
Yes (201) 72%

No, and I probably never will (38) 14%
The wide majority of poll participants (72%) have read at least one novel set in the Forgotten Realms.
15% voted that they haven't read any yet, but that they intend to in the future.
The remaining 14% said that they have never read any novels set in the FR, and that they probably never will.
Q: Would you be interested in buying & downloading any digitally distributed Neverwinter Nights content (like new modules etc.), should BioWare decide to offer it?
(227 votes total)
Maybe, depends on the price and/or payment options (68) 30%
Yes, definitely (67) 30%
No, never (61) 27%
Maybe, depends on the reviews (31) 14%
30% of poll participants might be interested in buying & downloading DD NWN content, but their decision would depend on the price and/or payment options offered.
Another 30% of those who voted are very interested in the possibility of digitally distributed NWN content, and would definitely buy & download it.
27% of poll participants have no interested in DD NWN content whatsoever.
Finally, the last 14% of people who voted might be interested in DD NWN content, but their decision to buy it or not would depend on the reviews.
Q: Do you own a computer DVD drive?
(295 votes total)
Yes (229) 78%
No, but am thinking about getting one (40) 14%
No, and have no intention of getting one (26) 9%
Quite surprisingly - to me, at least - the overwhelming majority of poll participants (78%) own a computer DVD drive. This really begs the question why, then, are we still being forced to install games off 3 CDs or more. Either our visitors are highly unusual in having so many DVD drives, or the game publishers aren't doing proper market research (or maybe they're waiting for 100% coverage?). Of course, there's also the fact that even 3 CDs at the mass prices are probably still cheaper than one DVD, but we would NEVER suspect the game publishers of continuing to shove multiple CDs down our throats just to save a few cents off every customer...
14% of those who voted don't have a computer DVD drive yet, but are thinking about getting one. Though presumably the reason here isn't the abundance of (game) titles released on DVD, but rather the low price of DVD drives today.
Lastly, 9% of people who voted don't own a DVD drive yet, and have no intention of getting one. Of course, if you're not someone to watch movies on a PC, you really don't have much cause to go out and buy a DVD drive at this point, if you have a CD-ROM already.
Q: Which of the two platforms do you prefer for electronic gaming?
(349 votes total)
Always PC (221) 63%
Always console (2) 1%
Both equally (16) 5%
Depends on the game (110) 32%
Though the previous poll showed that the majority of our visitors have access to one kind of console or another, apparently they still vastly prefer playing games on the PC. In this poll, 63% of poll participants chose PC as the preferred platform for electronic gaming.
Only 1% of those who voted always prefer playing games on consoles, which is quite extraordinary.
5% of poll participants like playing games on the PC and consoles equally.
Finally, 32% voted that their gaming platform preference depends on the game.
Q: Which gaming console(s) do you own or have regular access to?
(494 votes total)
Older generation (PS1, N64...) (125) 25%
None (102) 21%
PS2 (89) 18%
Handheld (Gameboy, N-gage...) (73) 15%
Gamecube (56) 11%
XBOX (49) 10%
(This poll allowed multiple selections upon voting.)
The results of this poll show that the majority of poll participants own or have regular access to one of the older generation consoles.
The second largest group of votes was contributed by those who neither own nor have regular access to any kind of consoles.
The third place goes to PS2, obviously the most popular of the big 3 consoles of the present.
Handheld gaming consoles are owned/available to only slightly fewer people than PS2.
Gamecube and XBOX are stuck at the bottom of the ladder, with Gamecube sporting only a slight advantage over XBOX.

3 (92) 32%
4 (70) 24%
2 (65) 23%
1 (poor) (39) 14%
5 (excellent) (22) 8%
Nearly one third of those who voted (32%) rated their knowledge of D&D rules 3 out of 5, so being somewhere in the middle.
Almost a quarter of poll participants (24%) rated it 4/5, which indicates that they consider themselves very familiar with the D&D rules.
Almost as many people as in the previous group (23%) rated their knowledge of D&D rules only 2/5, however.
Lastly, 14% of those who voted consider their knowledge of D&D quite poor (1/5), and the remaining 8% excellent (5/5).

Ask them if they're also wearing SP underwear (54) 23%
Steal their merch (25) 11%
Think about getting some SP merch (23) 10%
Sneak away and hope they didn't see me (20) 9%

The majority of poll participants (42%) would be quite friendly if they encountered someone with any SP merch. They would say hello to them and/or get them a drink.
23% would be a bit more inquisitive, asking them if they're also wearing SP underwear.
11% would act in the rogue D&D fashion and steal their merch!
10% would think about getting some SP merch themselves.
9% would sneak away and hope that the merch-holders didn't see them.
Finally, 5% would do Other. What other, we really can't tell, as none of the people who voted for this option explained themselves in the poll comments. We can only guess...

20% of poll participants were a bit less satisfied with it, rating it 4/5.

The remaining 11% of votes were accorded to ratings from 3/5 down to 1/5 - 3/5 6%, 2/5 3% and 1/5 2%.
Q: If BioWare decided to release another Neverwinter Nights expansion, would you buy it?
(359 votes total)
Yes, bring it on! (196) 55%
No, it's time for a new game (80) 22%
Maybe, once (if) I ever play the previous two (49) 14%
Maybe, depends on the reviews (34) 9%
Quite surprisingly (to me, at least), the overwhelming majority of poll participants (55%) voted in favour of buying another Neverwinter Nights expansion, should BioWare decide to release it (which does not appear to be the case currently).
Only 22% of those who voted are firmly convinced that it is time BioWare came up with a new D&D game, and that they wouldn't buy another NWN expansion.
14% of poll participants are allowing for the possibility of buying the third expansion, provided that they play the previous two first.
Lastly, only 9% of those who voted in the poll would rely on reviews of the expansion to decide whether they should buy it or not.
Q: On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the expired year 2003?
(258 votes total)
3 (103) 40%
4 (75) 29%
2 (42) 16%
1 (worst) (23) 9%
5 (best) (15) 6%
Overall, people have voted 2003 to be a somewhat mediocre year. The majority (40%), rated it 3/5. 29% of poll participants were a bit happier with it, rating it 4/5. 16% rated it 2/5, a pretty bad score, beaten by the 9% of those who voted the year 2003 1/5. 6% of those who voted, however, were so happy with 2003, that they rated it 5/5. I sure would love to be one of these lucky people!

(428 votes total)

No, I don't care (18) 4%
I think the poll results here speak for themselves... RiP, BIS.
Q: Are you going to get any D&D CRPGs (or their expansions) this holiday season?
(231 votes total)
I already have them all (74) 32%
Yes (70) 30%
No (50) 22%
Maybe, not sure yet (37) 16%
Interestingly enough, 32% of people who voted claim that they aren't going to get any D&D CRPGs (or their expansions) this holiday season because they have them all already. Considering there are currently 13 D&D games & expansions (starting with the original Baldur's Gate), I find that a bit hard to believe. I presume many people who picked this option meant that they have all the D&D CRPGs & expansions (they consider) worth having, not that they own every single one of them.
Only a few people less (30%) voted that they are going to get at least one D&D CRPG or expansion this holiday season.
22% of poll participants aren't going to get any D&D CRPGs or expansions this holiday season. Finally, the remaining 16% of voters might get some D&D CRPGs or expansions this holiday season, but they are not sure of it yet.
Q: Currently, no new D&D computer games have been announced for the near future. What are you going to do in the meantime until the next new D&D CRPG is released?

Buy some of the D&D games I don't own yet and play those (74) 18%
Take a break from computer games altogether (35) 8%
Obviously the majority of our visitors won't be that hard pressed without having any brand new D&D games to play in the near future. 49% of them voted that they will simply either play or replay some of the D&D games they already own, maybe try out some mods etc.
25% of those who voted, however, will take a break from D&D games and play some non-D&D ones.
18% of poll participants will buy some of the D&D games they don't own yet and play those.
Only 8% percent of all who voted will take a break from computer games altogether.

Athkatla in BG2 is obviously the more popular city of the two, with 51% of people voting for it being their favourite main city to wander through.
However, Baldur's Gate in BG1 is also pretty popular, with 30% of votes.
19% of poll participants couldn't decide on one city only, and voted that they enjoyed both cities equally.
(Of course, this poll presumed that everyone who voted played both Baldur's Gate and the sequel, though in truth probably many people who only played Baldur's Gate 2 voted...)

The remaining 8% of votes are divided between 20" monitors (3%), 18" and 24" (2% each) and Other (1%). One person who voted Other mentioned a dual display of 19" and 21" monitors.

11% of poll participants are not excited by any of the prestige classes SoU has to offer.

Q: Would you buy & subscribe to a Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online RPG)?
(274 votes total)
Maybe, depends on reviews (119) 43%
No (96) 35%
Yes (59) 22%
The majority of poll participants (43%) are undecided on the matter of buying & subscribing to a Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG, and would base their decision on the reviews. (Though this poll was general, a Dungeons & Dragons Online game has been announced at this E3 by Turbine. D&D Online is set to be released in 2005.)
35% of those who voted are not very interested in a D&D MMORPG and would not buy & subscribe to it.
The biggest surprise is the number of people who voted in favour of buying & subscribing to a D&D MMORPG - 22% of them. Though SP is solely dedicated to D&D games, this level of interest in a MMORPG is still quite surprising, even if it is a D&D one.
