NORTH NASHKELL ROAD

Hobgoblin Ambush

First I touch the east edge of the area in order to reveal another part of the world map. I then head south and west along the road.

Waiting for me is a quite large force of Hobgoblins, some of them archers. One of the adjustments that SCS1 makes is that archers will often take aim at spellcasters if they are in view of the archers. This does not void a strategy that I've often advocated, of stacking a lead character with items that give armor class bonuses against missile weapons. But it does require a fine-tuning of the strategy. The AI in vanilla BG1 would simply have archers take aim at the first character that showed up in their fog of war. So I could simply march the whole party ahead as long as the missile-immune character was in the vanguard. Now in SCS1 I have to keep Avastrian well back, outside of the archers' fog of war, while I send Khalid well on ahead. Khalid safely draws the initial fire, and then Avastrian hits the Hobgoblins with a Sleep spell from well beyond the archers' fog of war. Everybody then marches in and cleans up.

Lord Foreshadow

There are several points in this area, especially towards the northwest and southeast corners, that have monsters that can be killed for xp. I don't show it in this video, I simply did it, and returned to my previous spot to show the video.

In any event I continue along the road. There's Bandits up ahead and I use the same method. Khalid goes on well ahead of the rest of the party to absorb the arrows harmlessly. The rest of the party comes up from behind, and Avastrian gets off his Sleep spell from beyond the fog of war. Note that I also collect any Bandit Scalps I find here.

I then continue along the road to Lord Foreshadow, an NPC that was meant to foreshadow what had then been Bioware's future plans for the first Neverwinter Nights game.

I touch the south edge of the area to expose Nashkell on the world map, and then the area west of here as well.

I then begin exploring the Lonely Peaks west of here.
