VALARIAN'S TOWER
The objective here is to obtain the Nightspear, the only weapon that can permanently kill Tslotha Garnath. I'll need a Water of Life and an Acorn for that.
There's plenty of set encounters against random monsters throughout the Tower. A strategy that I use for maximizing xp is to let monsters that call more of themselves remain distant, and let them summon the maximum of 99 before using offensive spells on them. If they advance on me, I'll kill them off in that instance too. Ape Soldiers can be a particular danger, since they can use the Stone Touch spell and can cause Insanity with their attacks.
First Level
The entrance to the Tower is in the southwest corner of Arboria.
The stairs are at 2N 0E. I fight random monsters at 0N 0E, 0N 1E, 4N 2E, 3N 0E, 0N 3E, 0N 4E, 1N 4E and 3N 0E. There's a tapestry after the last fight that depicts the Crystal Palace, indicating that you should go there first if you haven't already.
I win another fight against random monsters at 4N 3E, and then go the stairs to the next level at 3N 3E.
Second Level
I defeat random monsters at 4N 3E, 4N 0E, 3N 1E, 3N 0E, 1N 3E, 2N 4E and 0N 1E. I take the stairs to the next level at 2N 0E.
Third Level
The stairs coming up are at 2N 0E. There is an image of an oak tree at 2N 1E, as well as an acorn-sized hole in the ground.
But I first win fights against random monsters at 3N 0E, 1N 0E, 0N 2E, 0N 3E, 2N 3E, 2N 4E, 1N 4E and 0N 4E. There is a teleporter on the same square of the last fight, and it takes me to 4N 0E.
From there I win fights against random monsters at 4N 1E, 4N 3E and 3N 4E. I sit on the square at 4N 4E with Rhyme of Duotime playing until Talia and Mordred recharge their Spell Points.
I go back to 2N 1E. I have Ariel "USE" the Acorn, and then one of the Waters of Life. An Oak tree rapidly grows to lift a stone disc up, and reveal a door to the next room. The stairs to the next level are at 2N 2E.
Nightspear
I go north to avoid the anti-magic square at 1N 2E, and thereafter win fights against random monsters at 3N 3E, 1N 3E and 0N 2E. I use Trap Zap on the trap at 3N 0E.
I next win fights against random monsters at 4N 1E and 4N 2E. At 4N 3E is the Nightspear, which can be used as a missile weapon at 70' range without limit. Gallard equips it for the time being, but keeps the Sword of Zar in the party's inventory.
*NOTE* I don't show it in the video, but I do all the set fights against random monsters all over again on all three of the lower levels on my way out of the tower. The more xp the better.
10th Level Chronomancer
I go back to the Wizard Hall in Ciera Brannia. Mordred advances two level, with minimum +12 Hit Points each time, +13 Spell Points first time and +14 Spell Points second time, and +1 Intelligence.
Talia advances three levels as a Chronomancer. The first time she insists on +12 Hit Points, +18 Spell Points and +1 Intelligence. It is at that point that she has maxed out her Intelligence.
The next three level ups see her insist on plenty of Hit Points that increase during each level-up (Minimum +12 during first level up and minimum +14 during the last level-up), +19 Spell Points and +1 Constitution.
She picks up two fourth-tier spells. One is Identify, which allows her without fail to identify any unidentified item the party may get as loot. The other is the Youth spell, which finally gives the party an option to address the Withered condition without having to go the Temple to rectify it.
Lord Stygar, Zarathos, Ariel, Gallard and Cassandra each advance two more levels, with plenty of Hit Points and +1 to Constitution each time.
Now I'm headed for the first level of the Festering Pit.
