KULDAHAR
Yuan-ti in Kuldahar
Now I go east from the Valley, and into Kuldahar itself. My immediate task is to clear the village of Kuldahar of many Yuan-ti throughout.
I employ a certain division of labour here. Lord Markus, Akutagawa, and Stygar always take on Yuan-ti Abominations that use hand-held weapons in close quarter combat. Keep in mind these fights are not necessarily a cake-walk in Tactics, so I am mindful when I need to use something like Heal or Lay on Hands.
Alliria, Tithian, and Lady Elanna concentrate their missile fire on one Yuan-ti Archer at a time in order to take them out one at a time. Lady Elanna also keeps her eye open for when she can catch several Yuan-ti at once with spells like Fireball and Acid Storm.
Gerbash's Key
Now I enter a house to the northeast, and find the Dwarf named Gerbash. I get one xp bonus for using a Heal spell on him.
I then get another xp bonus for returning the key to Jermsy in the Watchtower.
Conlan and Sheemish
I step into the first house I see to the east as soon as I come back to the village. Inside is the elderly former blacksmith of Kuldahar named Conlan. He has quite an extensive inventory for sale, but I'm not buying yet. I want to get a discount by doing a quest for him first. That quest is to find out for him what happened to his son, Sheemish.
Sheemish is in what had been Orrick's Tower during the first Icewind Dale game. He'll have a lot of spell scrolls to sell. If you have the collector`s edition CD, or you downloaded the file for it, you can also talk to the Air Elemental on the left side of the tower to give its inventory to Sheemish, who can then sell:
I then go back and bring the good news to Conlan for an xp reward. His wares are now available for sale at a noticeable discount. The inventory includes a lot of +3 and +4 weapons, as well as:
The Lights of Selune mod also adds a few items here ...
Another merchant will be in Kuldahar as part of the Light of Selune Mod. Wencit, a Wizard, can be found in Arundel's former home. He sells:
Iselore
Now I find Iselore at the southern part of Kuldahar, and speak with him at length about the background. I then get the quest from him to end the threat of more Yuan-ti reinforcements arriving through a Crossroads, either by killing all of the Yuan-ti on the other side or by killing the Guardian to close the Crossroads itself.
Mother Egenia's Spirit
Now that I've cleared out all the undead in Kuldahar Valley and in Hrothgar's Glen, and I've spoken to Iselore about Isair and Madae, it is now time to address a quest involving Mother Egenia's Spirit.
The quest opens up when I go back to Nathaniel and ask him about Isair and Madae. I then rest until it's dark out. Mother Egenia's Spirit can be found in an abandoned house just a little west and north of the Watchtower.
A Paladin or Cleric can force her away, but that's not the optimal solution in my view. It's best to have a character with high Intelligence conduct the conversation, so I choose Tithian. I get xp bonuses for learning of Isair and Madae's weakness (the dialogue option becomes available for a character with high INT), learning of my future, promising her not to cause more pain than is necessary to the twins, and putting her to rest by telling her what became of Isair and Madae.
I also get another xp bonus for informing Nathaniel that Mother Egenia's Spirit has gone to rest. Nathaniel also gives me a Ring of Protection +3 (+3 deflection bonus to armor class) and a Wand of Entanglement. The Ring of Protection +3 becomes an upgrade for Lord Markus.
I now head back to the north side of Kuldahar, and look for a glowing blue portal. This is the way to Chult.
