Belranga

Razai Passage

  1. Belranga the Crystal EmpressBelranga is an enormous Crystal Spider in the Crystal Desert, which is at #7 in the Razai Passage. There will be several Spider Burrows that continually spawn Crystal Spiders and Crystal Spiderlings.

  2. Belranga herself has three attacks:

    • A ranged spit attack that can hit multiple characters. It can also temporarily Petrify characters. But it is keyworded to Poison, so any item or ability that confers immunity to Poison will also confer immunity to the Petrification.
    • A shriek attack that emits in an approximately 2.5m radius around it. It can cause instant death to characters who are at 25% or less Health, although abilities like Barring Death's Door or a Potion of the Final Stand can block that.
    • Its melee attacks can cause Injuries.

  3. It starts off with sky-high defenses, as shown in the screenshot. Each Crystal Spider or Crystal Spiderling you kill permanently decreases all of its Defenses by 1. But each Spider or Spiderling you kill also permanently raises its Accuracy by 1 and its Attack Speed by 1%. The theme of the battle is to kill enough of the Spiders or Spiderlings to drop its Defenses enough to the point where you can attack it reliably. But you don't want to overdo it to the point where it can itself start one-shotting your characters at will. Dropping its Defenses down to about 100 or a little less is in my experience a good equilibrium, even on Path of the Damned.

  4. One thing you do not want is to get too close to it, since its melee attacks can cause Injuries (and permanent death if enough Injuries accrue). You want to keep it occupied with summons during the entire battle, both while you're going to work on the Spider Burrows, and when you're finally ready to bring the Queen herself down. That allows you to safely fire away from a distance when you're ready for the last phases of the battle. Chanter summons and the Monk's Dichotomous Soul combined with Dance of Death are invaluable during this battle since they potentially provide inexhaustible summoning resources.

  5. It can also be helpful to immunize some or all of your characters against Poison, especially the ones you want firing on the Queen. The Righteous Soul passive ability of the Paladin automatically confers immunity to Poison. Consuming Antidotes and prolonging them with either Salvation of Time (and recuperating Salvation of Time with Ancestor's Memory especially) or a Wall of Draining can be very effective. The Druid's Toxic Purge can be used in this way as well.

  6. Belranga herself drops the Spider Empress' Mandibles and a Mythical Adra Stone. The Spiders will often leave behind Adra Ban or Luminous Adra Dust.
