LAND OF DREAMS

Munkharama South

Gran Melange

Now I go to #12 and use another Well Coin to open the door. I then hit the lever at #13. I next use the last Well coin at #14. The point of hitting the lever at #13 is to open the way west of #14.

Going west, I run into another large group of Munk. Remember that Ninja, drawing on Alchemy, cannot be Silenced. I therefore have Rothgar cast a Silence spell on the Mad Warders, and Errol uses his Poet's Lute on the Dark Forest Munks. I tried to have Ryu use a Web spell on one Ninja, and have Terra use a Crushed Widows powder (Deadly Poison) on the other. They were both resisted, but neither Ninja cast any spells so I ended up killing them in subsequent rounds.

I then go to #15, and make a note of the name, "Gran Melange".

I then go to Brother Moser's Apothecary at #9. He has some potions and the like for sale. I buy a couple of Potions of Invisibility from him. I also ask about the "Land of Dreams" and then reply "Gran Melange" in response to his question.

Now I head back to #15 and enter. When the Munk there poses the riddle about who can no longer walk the land of dreams, I reply with the answer provided by Brother Moser, "Living Dead." I then have to pay a 500gp admission fee.

Land of Dreams

Dream Weaver

So I go up the ladder at #1 on Level 1. Then down the ladder at #2 on Level 2. Then up the ladder at #3 on Level 1. Then down the ladder at #4. I now run into a Dream Weaver which I kill.

At 'A' is an old Munk who is apparently about to enjoy the company of a couple of Nymphs. He leaves behind the Smoking Pipe for the party.

Nightmare

Now I go back up the ladder at #4. Then down the ladder at #5. Then up the ladder at #6. Then down the ladder at #7. Then up the ladder at #8. Then down the ladder at #9. I then have to defeat a Nightmare, which isn't difficult.

At 'C' is a chest that holds a few Golden Apples, a Chromatic Lyre (Itching Skin), and a random magical item.

At 'B' is a decrepit old Munk that is apparently addicted to some sort of smoking drug. Note that you need to find all the Munks here in the Land of Dreams to make progress.

Pipe & Pastille

Now I go back up the stairs at #9. Then down the stairs at #8. Then up the stairs at #10. Then down the stairs at #11. Then up the stairs at #12. I then have to fight several Furies, who can cast spells. Rothgar and Terra use Silence on the third and fourth. Chun-Li and Ryu take out the second. Zarax completely missed his attacks on the first. Fortunately she did not cast a spell and wasted a physical attack on Chun-Li that missed.

Chun-Li takes Illusion on her 11th level-up, which can be a really powerful summoning spell.

At 'D' is another Munk who leaves behind a Mysterious Pastille. I then merge that with the Smoking Pipe to get the Pipe & Pastille.

The Black Door

Now the party goes back down the stairs at #12. I then go up the stairs at #13. I bend the corner around to go through the Black Door at #14.

Each time you get a significant description of what is going on like, like for example "there's a fire ahead" or "you're falling" or "you're surrounded by darkness", "Use" your Pipe & Pastille. Each time you use the Pipe & Pastille, press ahead again. Keep going with using your Pipe & Pastille after each significant description appears, and pressing ahead again, over and over again. The persistence will pay off when the Spirit of Life appears, and offers you a reward, either a SWORD, a GOWN, a STAFF, a STONE, or a RING.

The rewards are as follows:

Note that special powers like Resurrection involve limited charges, so be judicious with using them unless you have the Recharge Item spell.

Which one you choose is a matter of subjective taste. I have no use for the Sword, since my Monk and Ninja will be fighting barehanded, while my Fighter and Lord will be using far better weapons.

It boils down to a choice between the GOWN and the STONE. Now is a good time to explain a certain dynamic in Wizardry 7. Items that provide renegeration, like +1 regeneration, will not stack together. But the same is also true of items that drain Hit Points. Equipping two items that drain -1 Hit Points with each tick will not together result in -2 Hit Points each tick.

Rothgar's Faust Halberd with -1 Hit Points and the Cameo Locket with +1 regeneration have so far neutralized each other. I have my eye on a different setup down the road. In fact, I plan to get a weapon for him that while very powerful will also drain -2 Hit Points. So I chose the STONE, an Amulet of Life that provides +2 regeneration. It will neutralize the -2 Hit Point drain of the weapon I have in mind once I get it. Each of the Gown of Divinemail (U) and Gown of Divinemail (L) provide +1 renegeneration, but their regeneration won't stack together. So the Amulet of Life is my only chance of being able to safely use that weapon. It's called the Staff of Doom by the way. So the choice becomes an easy one.

But the acquisition of the Amulet of Healing has immediate benefits as well. The +2 regeneration of the Amulet of Life outpaces the -1 Hit Point drain of the Faust Halberd. That means Rothgar can now passively renegerate any wounds he received during battles just by resting. Furthermore, he passes his Cameo Locket onto the Zarax. I can simply pass around the Cameo Locket to any wounded male characters when I rest in order to passively regenerate any damage they took. And Chun-Li and Terra can do the same thing with their Diamond Rings. That means I no longer have to spend any Divine Mana on healing spells unless it's necessary to avoid a party member dying during combat.

Xen Xheng

The party finds themselves at #15 on the Land of Dreams map. They press on ahead to #16 and meet the dojo master of Munkharama, Xen Xheng. I give the Holy Covenant to him, and then he sets me on a quest to find Five Flowers as a path to enlightenment. The idea here is to create a potion that will give one character the Snake Speed skill.

It turns out that somebody beat me to the Crystal Map and sold it to Xheng. So I in turn pool my gold and buy it from Xheng.

The chest at #17 is not trapped, and holds fairly generic Ninja outfitting and weapons for anybody who wants to change class to Ninja. It also holds the Black Belt of 5 Flowers (+3 armor, +40% light resistance) which only Ninja can wear.

The button at #18 opens the way back to Munkharama. I leave through the southern exit.

Now it's a matter of my next destination, which is the Rattkin Ruins.
