Nashkel MINES

Prism and Greywolf

Now I travel to the location of the Nashkel Mines. I make my way towards the southeast, and find the artist named Prism. I agree to protect him while he finishes his memorial to a woman named Ellesime.

The bounty hunter, Greywolf, soon arrives. In SCS he starts off by gulping a Potion of Speed before attacking. Imoen ensures victory by hitting him with a Blindness spell. If you can't debilitate him you are likely looking at having to reload.

Once he falls, Greywolf leaves behind the Longsword +2 'Varscona' (+1 cold damage). Avastrian, check, as he now wields Varscona in his primary hand, and a Longsword +1 in his off-hand. The only remaining character without a magic weapon is Jaheira, but she'll soon find a magic dagger after I have finished exploring the Mines.

Now I talk to Prism again, who succumbs to exhaustion after finishing his masterpiece. He leaves behind 2 Emeralds. I go back to Nashkel briefly. I drop one of the Emeralds. I speak to Oublek in order to get 200xp and 300gp. This way I can sell the other Emerald for 750gp.

War Dogs in the Warehouse

I come back to the Mines. I first go west, click on 'tab' as I search, and then get a Wand of Frost from a tree trunk.

I continue east until I reach a large Warehouse. Inside will be three War Dogs who aren't difficult at all to defeat. The containers in the warehouse will either be empty or have an odd and end or two.

I conclude the video by touching the east edge to reveal another area on the world map.

Galtok

Now I travel towards the southeast corner. The quest is a fairly simple one. A Gnome named Galtok is on the run from his Kobold captors, and it ends up on the party to kill quite a few of them. Sleep gets the job done for me.

Emerson

Now I travel to the pit in the middle and get Emerson's permission to enter the Mines themselves.

Kylee's Dagger

Much of this part of the game consists of exploring the tunnel ways and killing off groups of Kobolds, which as become pretty routine and easy.

At 1:30 of the video Miner Dink gives me Kylee's Dagger to return to him.

At 5:20 I have descended to the next level of the mines. At 5:35 I run into Miner Beldin. In vanilla BG1 the Kobolds almost always shoot him down right away. In BG1 NPC Projects, at least when Kivan is in the party to tell Beldin to get behind the party, the party has a real chance to kill the Kobolds before they get to Beldin. Once I do kill them off, and Beldin is still alive, I get a +1 to reputation.

It is at 8:12 that I return the dagger to Kylee for 200xp.

Joseph's Greenstone Ring

I continue to explore the second level of the Mines, killing plenty of Kobolds along the way.

I then descend to the third level of the Mines. Immediately within view are Joseph and his Greenstone Ring. I bring the ring back to the house just east of the bridge in Nashkel, and give it to his widow for 800xp.

Level 3

I come back and start exploring the third level in earnest. It's much of the same, slaughtering large groups of Kobolds after casting Sleep.

One key difference is that there's plenty of traps here, and Imoen has not yet reached her 5th mage level so as to be able to use her Thief levels as well. I don't mind though, as the traps here cause minor damage to a single character. I simply have Khalid, having the most hit points, trip them and then rest up when I'm done.

At around the 10:00 mark I tried to trap a couple of poisonous Spiders with Web. They get through but their hit points were few enough that I could kill them quickly, especially after Kivan brought one of them to 'near death' with his bow before it could even reach me.

At around 11:30 I cross a bridge to kill off a few more Kobolds. I am careful not to chase them too far, and have Kivan kill any that retreat with his bow. The reason is that I want to rest up before the next fight, and do not want to bring any of those enemies into view just yet.

After I have rested up the next fight at around 12:00 will be against a few Kobold Guards, a Kobold Chieftain, and a Kobold Shaman. Imoen's use of a Web spell almost suffices to win the battle by itself, although Avastrian does throw in a Sleep spell as extra assurance. Kivan shoots down the Chieftain with his bow. The Shaman then comes into view, and casts Mirror Image right away. Kivan and Jaheira pound one him at a distance with their arrows and darts. This fight is made easier by the fact that the Web spell often interrupted his spell casting.

Once the fighting is over I have Khalid trip the remaining traps on this level. The party then heals and rests up before proceeding to the next level.

Level 4

There will be some Kobolds on the other side of the narrow gangway, but the method remains the same. Khalid steps out to absorb the missile fire, and then Avastrian comes up and gets them with a Sleep spell.

There will also be a Ghoul further to the east, but Kivan easily shoots it down.

Mulahey

I descend for my fight against the boss of this chapter, Mulahey, a Priest of Cyric. Mulahey is definitely more dangerous than in vanilla BG1, with the distinct addition of Unholy Blight to his arsenal. Indeed a double-shot of Unholy Blight can be enough to blow away lower level parties. He also has other spells like Command and Hold Person. He'll also have a lot of Skeletons and Kobolds to help him out.

My approach is a little different during SCS. I have everybody well back besides the entrance. I then send Avastrian ahead to start the dialogue and then the fight. He then regroups with the party. Imoen casts a Web spell over the area in front of the party. My aim could have been better, but it worked well enough in the end. Mulahey and the other monsters are caught in the Web. Avastrian adds Sleep to take the Kobolds out of it. The name of the game is to kill Mulahey as quickly as possible while letting him cast as few spells as possible. Kivan drills Mulahey with arrows while he's paralyzed by the Web. At one point, he breaks free and begins casting a spell. But then Imoen hits him with her Wand of Frost, both to score damage and to interrupt his spell. At some point he closes the gap, and then I chop him down. After that the party kills off his minions one by one.

Mulahey leaves behind:

Nearby will be an Elven Enchanter named Xan, whom I have no use for.

The nearby chest has several potions, scrolls, and a Moonblade (+3 Shortsword, +1 armor class, +50% fire resistance, useable by Xan only).

It has also has a couple of letters which, when taken, lead to the start of Chapter 3.
